Howdy, this is my first post on Die by the Blade, but, I do have several on Buffalo Rumblings. I'm a huge Bills and Sabres fan and was an avid sports card collector.
I wanted to talk about the trade of Ryan Miller and how today's loss affects the team.
We know that Ryan Miller and Steve Ott (who had a very good post season) were traded for a base of:
Here is where it gets confusing: I will skip the part about the Blues going on, since they didn't:
If the Blues resign Miller to an extension PRIOR to their first round selection in the 2014 draft OR if they trade him before their first round selection in the 2014 draft THE SABRES get an extra 2014 first and a 2016 third, but, they give up 2014 second rd pick (from Minn) and 2014 third round pick
If the Blues resign Miller AFTER their first round pick, OR trade Miller AFTER their first round pick, or sign him TO A NEW CONTRACT for the 2014-15 season then they get an extra 2016 SECOND round pick plus the base. The Sabres don't give up any extra.
The last case is if none of the above happens (aka he walks and goes to a different team) the Sabres get an extra 2016 THIRD round pick PLUS the base. Again, the Sabres give up nothing else.
So, lets hope that Ryan resigns with them so we can get the extra first round pick, even if we give up an extra second and third. Or is it better to keep those 2 picks and get the extra second and third? What do you think? I know we give up an extra second and third, but, man, first round picks are still better, right?
