Continuing to look at trade targets I'd like to see end up in the Blue and Gold we turn to Philadelphia.
Wayne Simmonds is a big lad, though looking at him play he doesn't strike me as being terribly solid, lanky if you will. But my eye is far from expert, so by all means feel free to disagree.
Wayne's vitals are as follows
- 25yrs old. 6'2". 83kg (183lbs for those of you stuck in the dark ages )
- 3.975mil per year til 2019-20. Modified NTC
- 232 points in 447career games, made up of 109 goals (35 with the man advantage), 123 assists good for 0.5 points per game across a 6 year career split between the Kings and Flyers.
That modified NTC is a wrinkle, but lets just make the perhaps grander leap than many of us would like it to be and assume that somehow it works out. What's he worth to Philly?
He sees top 6 minutes, most recently alongside Lecavalier and Schenn on their 2nd line and on the right side of Giroux and Hartnell on the first PP unit. This is a player who is an important piece of their machine, he's bringing size but at 83kg he's a little light. He's clearly not afraid to exchange fists as he has 39 career fights (around 6 a season) which is likely a factor for the Flyers, if not the organization then certainly the fan-base, but we're not trading with them thankfully...
Flyers have a 41-30-9 record and are playoff bound. They have a working NHL roster, and a couple of call ups who fill the gaps nicely and will step into larger roles soon. I am going to make the assumption that in the event they are going to trade an important piece away it needs to be for future parts and not necessarily bodies on the roster tomorrow
That in mind my offer would be as follows.
- RW Wayne Simmonds
- G Matt Hackett
- 2014 Second round pick
That's where I start.
