The Sabres lost 2-0 to the Montreal Canadiens, and are now going on six straight games with zero goals from anyone not named Tyler Ennis or Drew Stafford. And now, they might be down not one, but two goaltenders.
Midway through the second period, Brandon Gallagher was checked into Enroth by Jamie McBain, and the Sabres starter was forced to leave the game with a lower body injury. Buffalo was already down a goalie thanks to another lower body injury suffered by Michal Neuvirth earlier this weekend, so Nathan Lieuwen, just called up from Rochester on an emergency basis, made his NHL debut.
Lieuwen is a 6'5'' sixth round draft pick (remind you of anyone?) in 2011, and performed very well in his debut, shutting out a mostly uninteresting Montreal for the rest of the game. He's played very well in Rochester this year, surprisingly well even, and could see extended time in Buffalo, as we don't know how long Enroth's injury ill keep him out. Matt Hackett could also get called up from Rochester if necessary.
