Sabres at Islanders recap: Buffalo loses 4-1, but we look for the positives

Bruce Bennett

A battle between the 30th and 27th ranked teams in the league lived up to the expectations, but we're here to think happy thoughts tonight.

Tonight, two professional hockey teams clashed on Long Island. Five goals were scored, both teams topped 30 shots, and there was plenty of animosity shown between players on both sides.

But, man, is it hard to get excited about a game between two bottom dwelling teams that has almost no consequence. Let alone when they have long stretches of play with nothing exciting happening. Still, you're not here to read how hard this whole blogging thing is, you're here for #HotSprotsTakes, so instead of focusing on the negative, let's focus on some good things that happened tonight.

Stafford and Ennis continue their hot streak

Tyler Ennis scored the lone Sabres goal tonight (assisted by Stafford) and over the past five games, Stafford and Ennis have combined for five goals.  Of course, no other Sabres players have scored over the past five games, all losses we should mention, but let's not talk about that tonight. Think positive!

Rasmus Ristolainen looked good

In his first game back in Buffalo in a few months, Ristolainen looked far more comfortable than he did in his initial stint. His Amerks coaches and Rochester media have praised Rusty's play over the past few months, and his game has clearly grown from his time in the AHL. He led the team in shots with four, and quarterbacked the second power play unit. Of course, he'll be sent back down to Rochester as soon as Tyler Myers or Alex Sulzer is healthy (and he absolutely should) but we're here to think positive!

Nobody got hurt...that we know of

Think positive!

Ted Nolan was not fined for player selection...?

Okay, we'll stop. This game stunk.

Three Stars

1. Kyle Okposo - 1g, 1a
2. Frans Nielsen - 1g
3. Anders Nilsson - 33 saves earns the win

Comment of the Game

Fittingly, when I go to type sabres, my tablet auto corrects it to sadness
