2014 NHL Mock Draft - March

It's that time of the month again. The order is, as always, determined by the reverse order of the standings coming into tonight. These are my own opinions that I base on the extensive draft research I do each year so I ask you respect them as I would yours (as is stated in the DieByTheBlade rules). The number in parentheses next to each player is that player's rise/fall since the February mock.

There are three changes this time: 1. The Islanders are up to fourth so I think they'd hold on to their pick. 2. The NHL awarded the Devils the 30th pick (that they can't trade or otherwise transfer to another team). 3. According to this mock draft, the Blues make the Western Conference Finals, so I have the pick going to the Sabres.

So, without further ado, here it is:

1. Buffalo Sabres - Sam Reinhart, C, Kootenay (WHL)

Reinhart is raw talent at its greatest. His high Hockey IQ and maturity make him several steps above anybody else on the ice. He also has great hands and great vision. Current line: 34-65-99 in 58 games.

2. Edmonton Oilers - Aaron Ekblad, D, Barrie (OHL)

3. Florida Panthers - Sam Bennett, C, Kingston (OHL) (+1)

4. New York Islanders - Michael Dal Colle, C, Oshawa (OHL) (-1)

5. Calgary Flames - Leon Draisaitl, C, Prince Albert (WHL)

6. Nashville Predators - Nick Ritchie, LW, Peterborough (OHL)

7. Carolina Hurricanes - Nikolaj Ehlers, LW, Halifax (QMJHL) (+6)

8. Anaheim Ducks (from Ottawa Senators) - Brendan Perlini, LW, Niagara (OHL) (-1)

9. Winnipeg Jets - Jake Virtanen, RW, Calgary (WHL) (+3)

10. Vancouver Canucks - William Nylander, RW, Sodertalje (Sweden) (+1)

11. Washington Capitals - Kasperi Kapanen, RW, KalPa (Finland) (-3)

12. Detroit Red Wings - Ivan Barbashev, LW, Moncton (QMJHL) (+2)

13. Arizona Coyotes - Haydn Fleury, D, Red Deer (WHL) (-4)

14. Philadelphia Flyers - Jared McCann, C, Sault Ste Marie (OHL) (-4)

15. New York Rangers - Julius Honka, D, Swift Current (WHL) (+3)

16. Columbus Blue Jackets - Conner Bleackley, C, Red Deer (WHL)

17. Dallas Stars - Josh Ho-Sang, C, Windsor (OHL) (+12)

18. Montreal Canadiens - Alex Tuch, RW, U-18 NTDP (USHL) (+1)

19. Tampa Bay Lightning - Dylan Larkin, C, U-18 NTDP (USHL) (+3)

20. Minnesota Wild - Adrian Kempe, LW, Modo (Sweden) (+1)

21. Toronto Maple Leafs - Roland McKeown, D, Kingston (OHL) (-4)

22. Los Angeles Kings - Sonny Milano, LW, U-18 NTDP (USHL) (+1)

23. Chicago Blackhawks - Nikolay Goldobin, RW, Sarnia (OHL) (-3)

24. Colorado Avalanche - David Pastrnak, RW, Sodertalje (Sweden) (-9)

25. San Jose Sharks - Nikita Scherbak, LW, Saskatoon (WHL) (+3)

26. Pittsburgh Penguins - Anton Karlsson, RW, Frolunda (Sweden) (-2)

27. Anaheim Ducks - Nick Schmaltz, C, Green Bay (USHL) (-2)

28. Boston Bruins - Anthony DeAngelo, D, Sarnia (OHL) (-1)

29. Buffalo Sabres (from St Louis Blues) - Robby Fabbri, C, Guelph (OHL) (+2)

Fabbri is your workhorse award winner. The 5' 10", 170 lb center plays a 200-foot game and has great ice vision and Hockey IQ. He is also offensively gifted and can be very crafty on his skates, yet will play the physical game when necessary. Current line: 45-41-86, 55 PIM in 57 games.

30. New Jersey Devils - Jakub Vrana, LW, Linkoping (Sweden) (-4)

31. Buffalo Sabres (2nd Round) - Jack Dougherty, D, U-18 NTDP (USHL) (+1)

Dougherty is a solid defenseman with an intelligent mind for the game. The 6' 1", 190 lb d-man plays physical yet can put the puck in the net every now and then. Current line: 5-13-18, 47 PIM in 44 games.

Honorable Mentions: Eric Cornel, Kevin Fiala, Chase De Leo, Brendan Lemieux, Thatcher Demko
