2014 NHL Mock Draft - February

So this time, I will add a bit of commentary here at the beginning. This mock (as all of mine are/will be) is based on the current standings. As far as the Islanders' pick goes, many have said the Islanders are likely to acquire a 2014 1st for Thomas Vanek. I don't think Snow honestly thinks they will be any better next year, either. Also, Tim Murray said they are operating as if the Sabres have the Islanders pick this year, so I will. The number in parentheses is the difference from their spot in my January mock draft. I have included scouting reports for the Sabres' picks. So, without further ado, here it is.

1.) Buffalo Sabres: Sam Reinhart, C, Kootenay (WHL)

Reinhart is raw talent at it greatest. His high Hockey IQ and maturity make him several steps above anybody else on the ice. He also has great hands and great vision. Current line: 29-51-80 in 45 games.

2.) Edmonton Oilers: Aaron Ekblad, D, Barrie (OHL)

3.) Florida Panthers: Michael Dal Colle, C, Oshawa (OHL) (+2)

4.) Calgary Flames: Sam Bennett, C, Kingston (OHL) (-1)

5.) Buffalo Sabres (from New York Islanders): Leon Draisaitl, C, Prince Albert (WHL) (-1)

Draisaitl is the first of many talented CHL imports in this year's draft. He is smart on the ice and has nice size: 6' 2", 208 lbs. His overall skill could propel him all the way to 2nd overall. Current line: 23-46-69 in 48 games.

6.) Nashville Predators: Nick Ritchie, LW, Peterborough (OHL) (+1)

8.) Winnipeg Jets: Kasperi Kapanen, RW, KalPa (Finland) (+2)

9.) Vancouver Canucks: Haydn Fleury, D, Red Deer (WHL)

10.) Anaheim Ducks (from Ottawa Senators): Jared McCann, C, Sault Ste Marie (OHL) (+1)

11.) Washington Capitals: William Nylander, RW, Sodertalje (Sweden) (-3)

12.) Columbus Blue Jackets: Jake Virtanen, RW, Calgary (WHL) (+2)

13.) Arizona Coyotes: Nikolaj Ehlers, LW, Halifax (QMJHL)

14.) Detroit Red Wings: Ivan Barbashev, LW, Moncton (QMJHL) (+3)

15.) Dallas Stars: David Pastrnak, RW, Sodertalje (Sweden) (+8)

16.) Philadelphia Flyers: Conner Bleackley, C, Red Deer (WHL)

17.) New York Rangers: Roland McKeown, D, Kingston (OHL) (-5)

18.) Los Angeles Kings: Julius Honka, D, Swift Current (WHL) (+2)

19.) Minnesota Wild: Alex Tuch, RW, U-18 NTDP (USHL) (+7)

20.) Toronto Maple Leafs: Nikolay Goldobin, RW, Sarnia (OHL) (+4)

21.) Montreal Canadiens: Adrian Kempe, LW, Modo (Sweden) (-6)

22.) Tampa Bay Lightning: Dylan Larkin, C, U-18 NTDP (USHL) (+3)

23.) Colorado Avalanche: Sonny Milano, LW, U-18 NTDP (USHL) (+4)

24.) San Jose Sharks: Anton Karlsson, RW, Frolunda (Sweden) (-5)

25.) Chicago Blackhawks: Nick Schmaltz, C, Green Bay (USHL) (-4)

26.) Boston Bruins: Jakub Vrana, LW, Linkoping (Sweden) (+4)

27.) St Louis Blues: Anthony DeAngelo, D, Sarnia (OHL) (-9)

28.) Pittsburgh Penguins: Nikita Scherbak, LW, Saskatoon (WHL) (+4)

29.) Anaheim Ducks: Josh Ho-Sang, C, Windsor (OHL)

30.) Buffalo Sabres (2nd Round): Thatcher Demko, G, Boston College (NCAA)

Demko is, no doubt, the best goaltender in this draft. He has great lateral movement and uses his size to his advantage. Current stats: 14 GP, 1.77 GAA, .935 SV%

Honorable Mentions: Robby Fabbri, Jack Dougherty, Brycen Martin, Kevin Fiala, Chase De Leo
