It seems like it's taking forever to get a new GM. To me, it's like having a carrot dangled in front of my face. I am the proverbial donkey being motivated to love this team because the changes are coming, soon. Well, next week. Ok, after Christmas break. When is it going to happen? I am getting antsy waiting to see what, if any, changes are going to happen to this team. It's worse than waiting for the next season of Game of T's to start.
In my desperate attempt for info, I turn to a different source. WGR chimes in the other day and asks the question, is it possible that GM's don't want the job because of Pat LalalalalalalaFontaine's insistence that the new GM must keep Ted Nolan? They insinuate that the new GM would not be able to bring in his own guy at least for a specified period of time. From what they are hearing, this is the reason the GM search is taking so long. Both on the Hotline and the afternoon program. It's not like its just one of them. Must be pretty solid information coming from the teams radio station, right?
Where else can I go to get information. (please note I didn't specify the reliability of said information) Turning to Eklund and Garth, we see that Ek really has nothing useful to say on the matter while Garth reports on Sunday that something may be happening and it may be tied to the World Juniors. Amazing how he gets this info the day after it is reported on Hockey Night in Canada.
Enter Elliot Freidman, hotstove reporter, we all know and rely on his information. Much more accurate that one of the previously mentioned. Freidman reports that Pat has done his due diligence, second round of interviews, and is prepared to make a certain hated rival's AGM our new GM. He too sites the fact that the World Jr's is getting in the way of the process. He claims that this AGM is missing the Jr's for the first time so he can do some scouting of the Western Hockey League. WTF?? Why would he do that? Freidman's report claims he is finishing off some outstanding business before he is able to be granted permission to move on from his old team. (some say he has once he finishes this job for them he will be moving on, hence the waiting comments from Patty)
The reports indicate (notice how I never really told you from who) that after the World Jr's, Buffalo will have their GM and they will be given the green light to start to readjust this team as they see fit. The team will not have to wait until the draft or even until after the Olympic break. But who do we believe?
The last piece of the puzzle comes from a source that I found peculiar. Glenn Healy, who rarely has anything new to say, but merely supports the other reporters, said he called the Sabres to ask them specifically, if this was indeed what has happening. He said they refused to comment on the situation in any way, which meant that he was on to something, "where there is smoke there is fire."
All I know is that I am rapidly getting tired of this. The next report I want to hear is that Buffalo has finally made a choice and the guy starts Monday. Who ever it is. At this point, I'm really tired of all the rumors to grab attention on a slow day in the newsroom. I want something concrete, something of substance. The time for speculation is over. Two months of looking is enough. At least give us a real update. "We have our guy, we just need to wait until his contract is over in the spring."
