We are only a few weeks away from the Draft and Free Agency leaving Sabres fans saying "Who are we going to trade?" "Who are we going to draft?" "Whats the plan?"
Well first of all I think the Sabres need to trade Miller if they want to start the rebuilding process. Towards the end of the year i felt like Miller was an issue in the locker room and with fans. He is selling his condo which could mean anything but in reality i think its a sign that he is going to be traded. The Sabres have many teams they can trade with looking for a Goalie. The Flyers, Panthers, Redwings, Islanders, Coyotes, Ducks, Wild, Avalanche, and even the possibility of the Penguins being interested. It is unlikely we trade Miller to any East Coast team. The best possible destination for Miller is Anaheim. Miller's wife lives in LA and with Miller in Anaheim it will give Miller a closer proximity to his wife. Also Anaheim is a contender in the playoffs and Miller would get them over the hump in the playoffs.
The Second plan of action would be to trade Vanek. I know Vanek is our best player and he was our only scoring. Quite honestly i don't like Vanek. I think he's a lazy player without the puck and doesn't back check. At this point this is the time to trade Vanek. He has one year remaining and we could get the most we can out of a trade right now instead of waiting. Teams like the Flyers, Redwings, Wild, Kings, and Avalanche could use Vanek and would be good trading partners.
Now heading into the draft if i were Darcy i would try to get into the top 5 if i could. The Sabres need a young guy that can solidify the core of the future. If the Sabres stay at 8 they should draft a D-Man. Last year the Sabres Defense was horrendous. If we got a guy like Darnell Nurse or Rasmus Ristolainen the Sabres could really solidify the Defense. At 16 the Sabres should go forward and take either Alexander Wennberg or Adam Erne.
Thanks for the read!
