Sabres at Penguins Recap: Sabres Dominate, End Pens 15 Game Winning Streak 4-1

Justin K. Aller

If you're gonna blow the team up, blow them up in style. A slumping Buffalo team ends the Penguins 15 game winning streak with a dominant 4-1 win.

Sabres Trolling The NHL

The 13th place Sabres are trading away all their players? The first place Penguins are on a 15 game winning streak? Kevin Porter don't care. Porter's two goals helped the Sabres ground the high-flying Penguins, along with goals from Cody Hodgson and Steve Ott. It was a very unexpected, but enjoyable victory for Sabres fans, who have gone four games without a Buffalo win. Were you watching, other GMs?

Bizarro Sabres

The Sabres dominated in the faceoff circle tonight, winning 34 of 57 faceoffs, outshot Pittsburgh 29-20, and only had two credited giveaways. This is the polar opposite of most Buffalo games, and helps explain why the Sabres controlled play tonight.

Solid Penalty Kill

Yes, the Sabres allowed a PP goal to Pittsburgh, but they also scored one shorthanded, and were very strong on back-to-back kills in the middle of the first period. Ryan Miller in particular made some timely saves on crossing passes, and the Sabres stayed in the game when they could have gone down by a big margin early.

Last Game Before Deadline

Jason Pominville, he of the many trade rumors, had two assists, and Ryan Miller performed admirably in a 19 save performance. Pominville especially has had his name bandied about in the trade market, and it was a good showing for the Sabres captain.

Is this our most complete game this year?
Since the opener?

And yes, it was. Sorry Pittsburgh, you picked the wrong night to play the Sabres. Literally any other night this season would have been better.
