UPDATE: The LA Kings Twitter account has announced that the second round picks traded for Regehr are for the 2014 and 2015 drafts.
The Sabres Fire Sale is on, according to Darren Dreger of TSN, who Tweeted this just moments ago:
Regehr to Kings for a pair of 2nd round draft picks. #tradecentre— Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) April 2, 2013
Regehr leaves Buffalo after a year and a half since waiving his NMC to come from Calgary to Buffalo. After all was said and done, the Sabres gave up Chris Butler and Paul Byron, and paid for Ales Kotalik to sit in the minors, and in return, they got Regehr for a season and a half as well as a trio of second round draft picks. That, my friends, is some serious General Managering from Darcy Regier.
With Regehr waiving his NMC, the Sabres have now dealt both their defensemen with expiring contracts, and thus the easy speculation has come to fruition. By trading Jordan Leopold and Regehr, the Sabres have now acquired three second round draft picks (one in 2014) and a conditional fifth rounder.
All that's left is to see whether or not GM Regier will continue to blow this team up, or rather, to what extent. We reported earlier about Jason Pominville being asked to submit his list of eight teams he doesn't want to be traded to, but at this point, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Sabres deal anybody, heck, or everybody.
