Hindsight is 20/20 so they say.....so since that is the case, im going to take a look at the Sabres most recent NHL drafts that can offically be evaluated, and also provide players that the Sabres missed on just for fun since it's always fun to look back. Im going to look at anything beyond round 3 because that would just take forever, and honestly.....beyond round 3 is strictly for the scouts to find gems like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Rinne, and Ryan Miller in later rounds. The first 3 rounds have the highest probability for success.

Keep in mind: this is just for fun, but looking back at this this will make you wish you could give Darcy a Delorean time machine....


2005: Rnd 1: Marek Zagrapan: Could of had: Martin Hanzal, Tukka Rask, TJ Oshie, and Andrew Cogliano
Rnd 2: Phillpe Gougulla: Could of had: Mason Raymond, Johnathan Quick, TJ Oshie
Rnd 3: M.A Gragnani: Could of had Keith Yandle or Niklas Hjalmarsson.

2006: Rnd 1: Dennis Persson: Could of had Patrik Bergland, Nick Foligno, Nikolai Kulemin,
Rnd 2: Jhonas Enroth: Could of had Milan Lucic (went 2 picks later), Artem Anisimov, James Riemer,
**Riemer would of been a round 2 reach, but if you want a goalie i'd take him over Enroth
2b: Mike Weber: Could of had Brad Marchand, Cal Clutterbuck,


2007: Rnd 2: T.J Brennan: Could of had: PK Subban
Rnd 2b: Drew Schiestel: Could of had Wayne Simmonds
Rnd 3: Corey Tropp: Could of had: Alec Martinez

****2007 was a really weak class so far.

2008: Rnd 1: Tyler Myers: Eh, This draft I can live with, but they could of had Erik Karlsson? Jordan Eberle?
Myers has underachived, regardless, I'd take Karlsson if I had to pick someone
not named Myers. But does Karlsson put up 60 to 70 pts here under Ruff?

Rnd 1b: Tyler Ennis: I still say Ennis has been the best Sabre pick from 2005-09 unless Myers proves otherwise, I'd take him again.
Unless you want: John Carlson, Roman Josi, or Justin Schultz??? Maybe??

Rnd 2: Luke Adam: Could of had: Derek Stepan or Travis Hamonic

Rnd 3: Corey Fienhage: could of had Adam Henrique (1 pick later)

2009: Rnd 1: Zack Kassian: ***I think i'd keep Kassian only because without Kassian, you dont get Hodgson.
But if had to do over, I could have choose from: Nick Leddy, Kyle Clifford, or Ryan O' Rielly.

Rnd 3: Brayden McNabb: This was my second favorite pick from 2005 to 2009. Could be a nice player, we'll see. But if had a do over and pick a player not named McNabb, an option to consider, would have been to trade up into later round 2 and draft Tomas Tatar, who eventually went to the Wings. I just think he's a star in the making.

****Marcus Foligno went in this draft in round four.....Pretty happy with that on a side note.


Man I wish I had that time machine to give to Darcy. Unfortunately, no GM has foresight this good without one.

As for the future, Pysyk, Grigorenko, Armia, and Girgensens.....only time will tell the fate of these young talented players.
