Five SB Nation team sites had Lindy Ruff's firing on their main page. Maybe more will get to it tomorrow, but as of now:
Die By The Blade - Buffalo Sabres
Eyes On The Prize - Montreal Canadiens
Stanley Cup of Chowder - Boston Bruins
Broad Street Hockey - Philadelphia Flyers
and
On The Forecheck - Nashville Predators.
Let's analyze.
1) Neutral Reaction
On The Forecheck - Nashville Predators: The Nashville guys went with the obvious story for their fanbase, that their coach Barry Trotz is now the longest tenured coach in the NHL.
Die By The Blade - Buffalo Sabres: Did a good job of measuring the pros, cons with the "finally", and the "I can't believe it" Also earned one of 2 breaking news banners featuring a banner of "Lindy Ruff Fired"
2) Positive
Eyes On The Prize - Montreal Canadiens: Surprisingly positive after the whining I sawfrom Habs fans after the last second win by the Sabres a few weeks back. They suggest Randy Cunneyworth as a possible Sabres coach.
3) Negative
Broad Street Hockey - Philadelphia Flyers: The article was actually kind of positive, recounting the intense playoff rivalry between the Ruff Sabres and the 7 or so Flyers coaches since 1997. I put it in the negative for the "Tell Lindy to f*** off" headline.
4) Special "lowest of lows" Category Reserved for Boston:
If you can't beat 'em, laugh when he gets fired, by my count Lindy Ruff was 50-33-16 against Boston and 1-1 in playoff series against the Bruins, so Stanley Cup of Chowder should be relieved that he is gone.
They didn't have it in them to write an article, how can you write an article about losing to a coach twice, only for that coach to get fired for poor performance. They did put up the breaking news banner linking to DBTB that read: "LOL ALERT: Lindy Ruff Canned"
