I know many will disagree with me 100% on all of this.....but I definetly think the Islanders are going to defer based on whats on the horizon next year.....you dont pass up an opportunity to take a "prodigy" in McDavid unless you get pick #1 and win the lottery to take Reinhart....then you have a tougher decision.
But, who knew that this years Christmas present for the Sabres and their fans would come from Garth Snow.....I mean giving a 1st to 3rd overall pick away for free and the more I think about it, I think NYI might actually defer....tough decision there...... Hell, Buffalo could even get another mid 1st rounder outta this deal by trading Moulson as a rental turning Vanek into two 1st and a 2nd....not only that but imagine if they trade Moulsin to a team battling for a playoff spot and then that team misses....giving them 3 picks in the top 12?
Why that trade happened was shocking, and make no sense on the Islanders part....and I hope we dont forget who got this trade done (Thanks Darcy)....might end up being his best trade.
And if they trade Miller, they'll get more assets, although finding a dance partner is very tough
Is it also far fetched to think the Sabres can get a late first rounder for Ott?? You could always re-sign him in the offseason, and I get the feeling he would comeback since he does love it here. I mean they fetched one for Gaustad, and im sure Ott gets a lot of interest from teams looking for that "last peice"...
We could be looking at 3-4 First rounders here ?
I really love the direction Buffalo is going in because if they go into next season with a depleted team, they'll also have better odds to draft Connor McDavid in 2015 or even a guy like Dylan Strome or Jack Eichel and with the prospects thay already have, especially on defense and with Girgensens to start.... to potentially make Buffalo a future cup contender for many many years. Don't screw this rebuild up LaFontaine, this is your chance to look like a genius
The Question is: Who would you take aside from Sam Reinhart if the Sabres somehow lose the lottery (that can happen, the Hawks moved up 4 spots in 2007 too) or the NYI gives up the #2 or 3 selection? Who should the Sabres take with that second pick? Nylander, Ekbald, or Draistil?
