With the recent, long expected, dismissal of Jay Feaster in Calgary, the Sabres now face increased pressure in the race to choose a new GM.
The world knows that the Sabres indicated they were more than happy to take their time in choosing the next GM. They wanted to be sure they got the right person for the job. But the actions of sometimes larger than life hockey man Brian Burke have always been quick and calculated. Burke never rests on his laurels for long. Whether its picking a new coach or signing the players he wants.
Will the challenge of an experienced hockey man joining Pat LaFontaine in competing GM searches alter how the Sabres proceed from here? The Sabres are no longer able to sit back and wait for the perfect situation. It appears that Burke may have a few similar targets in mind for Calgary's GM position.
How will this alter the Sabres plans? Will they rush now and jump to their new GM? Will they be willing to loose a top potential GM so they don't have to rush? Will Burke be looking for the same type of GM as Pat? Will we have to wait until next year to meet the new GM of the Sabres?
Until we can answer some or all of these questions and the Sabres GM picture becomes more clear, the belief will be the race is on.
