We're all trying to figure out what will happen with Grigorenko - will he spend the rest of the season in Quebec City or in Buffalo. There's a roster situation that could determine what happens. Leino will be ready to come back to the lineup, in which case Hecht gets bumped down to the third line. What about McCormick and Gerbe? McCormick belongs nowhere else but the 4th line, and he an Matt Ellis are pretty interchangeable at that spot. That would bump Hecht up to the third line again. When asked about it today, Lindy Ruff was noncommittal, saying that these things usually take care of themselves because of injuries, etc. There are a few different scenarios:
Grigorenko goes back to Quebec:
Hecht becomes third line center with Ott and Leino. McCormick or Matt Ellis center the third line. Gerbe comes back and likely relegates John Scott to the bench (or there's a trade). In the event of a Center injury, Adam or Porter get called up.
Grigorenko stays
1. Grigorenko remains centering the third line with Leino and Ott for the time being. Hecht stays on the fourth line. Gerbe, John Scott, Kaleta, Matt Ellis, McCormick all compete for time as linemates or are used to plug holes elsewhere.
2. Here is the more intriguing scenario. Lindy decides that Grigorenko needs to produce more offense. Tyler Ennis is sort of demoted to a second line winger and Grigorenko becomes the 2C with Ennis and either Foligno or Stafford. In this case, I think Hecht stays a 3rd line center.
