With all the talk about Mikhail Grigorenko, I must say that you ABSOLUTELY CANNOT FORGET ABOUT ZEMGUS GIRGENSENS as he will be an important part of this teams future. With all thats been going on of late with the lockout, the settling of the new CBA, and the hype and excitement of Mikhail Grigorenko, It's quite easy to forget about the guy that Paul Hamilton said sounded like a train on the ice when he saw him play. Even I forgot about him, but he's another guy to certainly get excited for and there is a reason why this team offered him a deal.
Many scouts have compared Girgensons’ style of play to that of Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks, but more physical and intense and a little less offense. He might not be quite as NHL ready as Grigorenko is from an offensive standpoint as he only has 3 goals, 6 assists, and is a -1 so far, but hopefully with the promotions of Cody Hodgson and Marcus Foligno, he'll have more of an oppurtunity to show what he can do. Girgensens will need a little time to develop and I have no problem waiting since he will be an important player on this team down the road.
When you have an organization that wants to get tougher to play against like the Sabres, Girgensens will certainly help make that happen if he pans out. He definetly looks like he'll be a pain in the a** to play against. For this reason alone, Zemgus Girgensens was the Sabres first round pick I was most excited for, even more than Grigorenko (call me crazy)
This is the guy I want centering my 3rd line (or maybe 2nd, perhaps?) in Buffalo for the next 12-15 years if he is as advertised. Ennis, Hodgson, Grigorenko, Girgensons, Armia, Foligno. sounds like a wicked top 6 for the next ten years. Myers, Erhoff, Mcnabb, snd Pysyk, as our top D for the next ten years. Along with being led by seasoned veterans like Thomas Vanek and Jason Pomminville, two guys who have been apart of Buffalo's first run in 2005-07, and the grit and toughness of Steve Ott. This teams best days are all set for the 2014-2015 season and beyond. Kudo's Darcy so far, now lets see how this plays out and maybe this team finds themselves trying to acquire Jarome Iginla for a playoff run.
