Buffalo Sabres v. Toronto Maple Leafs - Scoring Chances

The Buffalo Sabres looked like a team that was playing back-to-back games after one week of training camp. The Sabres played well defensively, but the offense was nothing to write home to mom about. The Sabres struggled to generate chances, but in the end it took only two goals to improve their record to 2-0-0 on the season.

This section is a listing of all the scoring chances in the game. I will do my best to explain each column in the chart so you have a better understanding of what you are looking at.

• Column 1 - The team that had the scoring chance.
• Column 2 - Which period the chance took place.
• Column 3 - The time remaining when the chance took place
• Next six columns - Sabres players on the ice for the scoring chance
• Next six columns - Opponents players on the ice for the scoring chance
• Last Column - The strength when the scoring chance happened

Scoring Chance Breakdown

This section breaks down the scoring chances by player and by period.

Player Section - The time on ice for each player as well as the chances that occurred when each player was on the ice. The first column in each section is time on ice, the second is chances for and the third is chances against.

Head-to-Head Scoring Chances

This is my favorite chart of the group. This is a list of how many chances each player had against their opponent. A positive number means the Sabres had more scoring chances when on the ice against the player from the opposing team. A negative number means there were more scoring chances when the opponent was on the ice against each Sabres player.

The chart above indicates the Pominville-Hodgson-Vanek line was the Sabres best line of the game and they had most of their success against the Leafs second line. The Foligno-Ennis-Stafford continues to struggle to generate offense and that led them to be on the minus side in this contest.
