Jerome Miron-US PRESSWIRE
Three players have been sent down to Rochester, clearing up a bit of space on the NHL roster.
The Sabres need to trim their roster to its final numbers by this afternoon. They started by freeing up some space yesterday by waiving three players - Adam Pardy, Nick Tarnasky, and Kevin Porter.
Tarnasky and Porter will be heading back to Rochester, and may be joined by Pardy, acquired by the Sabres in the Derek Roy-Steve Ott deal. He was expected to challenge for a spot amongst Buffalo's defensemen, but with nine others in the mix, Pardy is now the odd man out.
That still leaves Brayden McNabb, Mike Weber, TJ Brennan, and Alexander Sulzer fighting for one starting spot, with Myers, Ehrhoff, Regehr, Leopold, and Sekera having almost certainly locked up starting spots. McNabb can still be sent down, but were the Sabres to send Brennan back to Rochester, he would have to clear waivers, and with Joe Finley already getting claimed, it would be a virtual certainty that Brennan would as well.
We should know more by the end of the day about how the roster situation, and logjam along the blueline, will shake out.
