2012 Playoffs

Although our team is well into the off season, I have been spending a significant amount of time watching the first round of this year's playoffs. One recurring thought continues to permeate my mind, "Are the Sabres really a few players away from competing at an elite level"? Not just making the playoffs, but competing for the cup. Think about it.

IMO, there are some key strengths but they are quickly overshadowed by the glaring weaknesses. Outside of the standard statistics, the first thing that comes to mind is physical play. As I watch these games I am frightened by the thought of who would be left to suit up after Round 1 of the playoffs if the Sabres were to win. All the talk about the injuries this year and you have to think about who on this roster is strong enough and tough enough to make a deep playoff run.

Wholesale change is required. Regier must go. Move Lindy to the front office and get rid of the dead wood, Boyes, Hecht, etc. The key will be to add the three "S's" size/strength/scoring.
