Sabres Practice Update: Lindy Ruff Suffers Three Broken Ribs In Practice Collision
Jordan Leopold may find himself in the doghouse in the next couple of days as he accidentally collided with head coach Lindy Ruff during a 1 on 1 drill during Monday's practice. According to the team, Ruff suffered three broken ribs in the collision and will be able to return to work on Tuesday.
The Buffalo News' Mike Harrington had the visual account of how it happened:
Leopold was working in a 1-on-1 drill with Ville Leino and lost his balance, sliding to the ice and barreling into Ruff from behind. Ruff went airbone and landed hard on the ice, letting out a scream as his body crumpled that echoed through the empty arena.
With all of the crazy things that happen in a season, having a coach get injured during a practice is up there. It's a good thing that Ruff is alright and that the injury wasn't more serious.
In terms of other updates from practice, due to the Lindy injury, there is nothing really new to report. We should find out more tomorrow when Lindy gets back.

WOW could be a good thing
If Lindy isn’t behind the bench when we play Boston, we might score 5 or 6 goals.
Nice
Now that’s true class shown by a real fan, cheering an injury.
while not wishing ill
for Lindy,I agree that would be cruel…it will be interesting IF Coaches A B or C must take over to see what line combos would be used.
Luke Adam with Pommers again? We can dream. Let him return to the top line and learn on the job in a year where we are all over but the wishing…

I'd rather he learn the importance of defensive play and earn his minutes.

not to mention
he seems to have also forgot the importance of offensive play.

no its not
and injuries are a large part of sports & a few ribs are far from serious.
Completely agree that it will be pretty interesting to see someone else behind the bench & watch how the team responds.

Lindy is absent from practice today.
Recovering from 3 broken ribs at his age is no trivial feat. I was actually surprised to hear that he was expected to return in one day. One week sounds more realistic, to me. I wouldn’t be back at work the next day, that’s for sure. Standing/moving/talking/shouting must hurt like hell.
Sneezing!!!
I’ve had the same thing, not 3, but holy hell does it hurt. It is so painful to sneeze or even breathe in deeply for that matter.

Is anyone else surprised they didn’t announce he was day to day with an upper body injury?

An anonymous source told The Buffalo News that Derek Roy punched Lindy in the ribs.

Even the coaches are getting injured.
.
When the job is finished no one remembers how long it took, just how well it was performed.

Clearly Ruff has lost control of this team.

Does that mean he wont be behind the bench coaching? Not sure we have this answer or not yet, but it would kind of shock me if he misses any games. I know they can be very painful, but theyre going to be painful if hes behind the bench or not.
Lets Go Buff a lo!
No, if he couldn’t be behind the bench, he would be coaching from the press box like Teppo.

Leo has a phone call with Shanny at 1pm
Won’t be more than 5. No prior history of tripping coaches, but the injury will factor.
