He is on the second line with his main man Ennis and Staffy.
"We’re gonna win the Stanley Cup. Then, you know what, we’re gonna win it again,"

so I’m guessing he’ll be on one of hte powerplay units right, i mean he played on the 2nd canucks unit I think… and will ennis be as effective now that hes going back to the wing?
"I get inspired by the blunts too."
We should use him as a top 2 center...
So he should be up there and play PP minutes. Now knowing Lindy, he may roll a Ellis-Hodgson-Tropp line at even strength at some point, but he does that with everyone.

yeah, not so sure if i really want ruff to be our coach going forwards, dunno if i have a lot of faith in him and his system anymore. especially concerned about his ability to nurture/hone young talent
"I get inspired by the blunts too."
Young talent?
Like Vanek? And Roy? And Pominville? And Ennis, Gerbe, Kaleta? Stafford during even years? Yeah he sucks at working with young talent.

I agree you with in part about Ruff.
While I actually think he IS good at nurturing young talent (myers, roy, vanek, pommers etc have all come up under Ruff’s watch and developed into very well-rounded players. Without Ruff I don’t know if Roy and Vanek would have found the defensively responsible game that they have.) I AGREE about moving forward and I don’t know how good he is at letting players be themselves. By that, I mean part of me feels as though he smothers offensive players in terms of there defensive duties, which prevents them from further honing their natural gifts and playing to their strengths (kinda like how Ovechkin no longer does what he does best and is suffering for it.)
Ovechkin still doesn't do "defensive duties."
He’s just moody.*

I mean that the “system” has changed down there. Instead of taking advantage of the offensive talents and speed that the team has they play this mismatched scheme of trying to play defensive when they are clearly built to be a run and gun team. I really wish they made it deeper in the playoffs and never started this stupid defensive game, they used to be so fun to watch.
yeah thats my thing. I feel like he wants everyone to fit into his system, instead of fitting his sytem around his players and their strengths. I see the benefits of taking either strategy, but it does seem like ruff’s a little too rigid. Id rather sacrifice a little bit of defensive responsibility with at least one of our lines if it would mean better offense.
"I get inspired by the blunts too."
Yep that’s what I agree with.
Just looking around the league and watching guys like Eberle, Seguin etc prosper with responsibility and minutes and then watching guys like Vanek (ie/ proven players) getting 15 mins/game it just seems like a kick in the nuts sometimes.
BUT, at the same time then you remember those first few post-lockout years and multiple guys were having huge years and putting up numbers it shows that he knows how to coach that style.
I guess I’m saying that I realize that the game has changed and there is just less offense in general, and Lindy’s teams are always competitive, AND he clearly knows how to play different styles and systems so he knows his players and how to get the most out of them, It just seems like he could adapt when his system seems to fail so regularly nowadays.
and four years with no playoff series wins (could be 5), two season in a row with terrible starts/first halves would be firing offenses on most teams. Ruff’s teams do better than most, I bet he’d have offers out the wazzoo when he leaves, but I really am feeling more and more like it’s time to go.
"I get inspired by the blunts too."
LETS GO BUFFALO!!!!
So who’s pumped to see how our brand new center does? Really hope things work out with him, that he does well here and that he likes playing here. Anyone know what line he’s supposed to be on, like if he practiced with them yet? Sorry to see Kassian go, but we need centers so badly and this kid looks like something else. And although it sucks to have a 10pm start, I love Anaheim. There are a lot of west conference teams that I really like (Chicago, Detroit, etc) probably because we don’t have to play them much lol, but Anaheim has such a great cast of characters, I always root for them to do well (except for tonight of course). So again, Im really pumped for this game, so lets get it done!
"I get inspired by the blunts too."
Anaheim is one of the teams I consistently listen to as my late night game. I catch San Jose and LA a lot as well, Vancouver and Phoenix less often.
"I could have conquered Europe, all of it, but I had women in my life." - King Henry II of England
it’s usually a pleasure to watch any of those teams, see some players that dont get much exposure out here. and oh em gee @ phoenix, where did all that come from? doubt they can sustain it, but good for them regardless. maybe they’ll make the playoffs and get past the first round for a change. would be cool if it wasnt just the usual suspects going deep
"I get inspired by the blunts too."
Off. Lines for tonight:
Vanek Roy Poms
Ennis Hodgson Stafford
Gerbe Leino Kaleta
Ellis Boyes Tropp
"We’re gonna win the Stanley Cup. Then, you know what, we’re gonna win it again,"

btw, did you guys see that letang went down? nystrom caught him with a wicked shoulder/elbow/sledgehammer to the noggin. I dvr’d the penguins game so I dont know if he came back later, im twoish minutes into the second, gonna switch back and forth between the two games (dun spoil it plz)
"I get inspired by the blunts too."
Heard he is out for the game…it was quite a jolt.

yeah, looked brutal, theres already a poll up asking if he should be suspended

I looked brutal because Letang leaned into it.
Bad timing. I’d fine him but no suspension.

better than i would have expected. did you see that goon has really high ratings? last i saw it was in the 70 or 80% range, and one of my friends downloaded it and said it was amazing

totally worth doing, especially cause hunger games might be really good. I havent read the books, but I like post-apocalyptic shit so im down to check that out. but goon is top of my list right now

She is on the third book of the trilogy…been bugging me to read it. By the sounds of it, book 1>book 2> book 3.
"We’re gonna win the Stanley Cup. Then, you know what, we’re gonna win it again,"
-Terry Pegula
sucks when that happens. felt that wa yabout the golden compass books, but the reverse is true with Game of Thrones/Song of Ice and Fire series. Sort of the reverse, all the books are great, but the second is better than the first, third is maybe the best of all, and the last two (so far) are also really bomb
"I get inspired by the blunts too."
Most of my leisurely reading is non-fictional….my fav. fiction author is Kurt Vonnegut; I just love Slaughterhouse Five. For non-fiction leisure reading, I do like Bill Bryson a lot as an author and I recommend any book he writes. Beyond that, I read about hockey and anything engineering related…from Popular Mechanics to DIY Wind Power projects. I really need to graduate and get a real job, so I can spend money on some cool stuff I’d like to build.
"We’re gonna win the Stanley Cup. Then, you know what, we’re gonna win it again,"
-Terry Pegula
sounds pretty good, big vonnegut fan myself, he’s real good shit. I havent heard of Bryson before, i’ll google him though. Good luck on building shit; I love to tinker and see what people can put together (though our focus has been more on things that go boom or shoot projectiles of some sort); couldn’t imagine how much fun it would be to actually know what youre doing

Was Goose really a fan favourite?
Is there we way we can take a poll on that?
I mean i liked him just fine, but he wasn’t a favourite and I can’t say I miss him, i would’ve been fine getting a 2nd, maybe even a 3rd rounder for him. Is that just me?
Sadly...
I don’t know if I have a single “favorite”. I want the team to win…so whoever is on the team that can do that for me, it will be great.

atlas. I really like him. but gerbe is great, and i love ennis because of his attitude. Last year when he scored the ot goal in that philly playoff game, he said afterwards that he wants to be on the ice in ot and the big moments, he wants to be the guy that the coach and team can rely on. That was awesome when he said that, i love to hear about that kind of attitude, as opposed to the guys who shun pressure and being on the spot. Anyone with that kind of attitude is my favorite
"I get inspired by the blunts too."
Yeh I love Atlas too. And it seems I am one of the few who love Roysie.
But I still have to go with Gerbs for his tenacity. He’s 5 foot nothing and doesn’t back down from anything, never takes a shift off, has always been an offensive force and is now being asked to play the role of grinder and has never had an issue with it, if anything he’s embraced it.
yeah, gerbe deserves lots of props. really would like to see him in an exclusively offensive role, or if not exclusive, id like to see what he can do when he doesnt have to play on the checking line. I mean, he did have 14 goals in the 2nd half of last season. irregardless, he’s a mofucking baller
"I get inspired by the blunts too."
he worked hard and was big on a sorta small team. and he wins face offs. def a nice guy, but not a favorite

What can we expect from Kassian, besides the physical game. He has good hands? Is he a top 6 guy or is it too early?
Contributor at Nucks Misconduct
this is his first professional year, he was in the ohl last year. i think its a little early for him, and the conventional wisdom is always that power forwards take longer to develop. but I think hes a great kid, lots of upside, and I felt like he showed some great moments. Dunno if he just didnt fit in with Ruff’s system or if he wasnt ready for the nhl, but he’s gonna be a great player. at least thats the indication I have. Doubt he’ll have a huge impact for you this year, but in the future he’ll be a big part of the team
"I get inspired by the blunts too."
He has had great board work…he is hell to get off the puck. Struggles to accept passes at times, and wasn’t a world beater as a hitter out on the ice, but I think he can improve in both of those categories. Too early for top 6, though he could play well with the depth you have on your team. He really did not have a lot of time with our club, so it is hard to tell how he would project. Was a ppg player in Rochester, so he does have the offensive skill.
"We’re gonna win the Stanley Cup. Then, you know what, we’re gonna win it again,"
-Terry Pegula
I think he'll be good
Some were ready to give up on him after not showing a whole lot in 20 games, but he came in with unrealistic hype becasuse we’ve been waiting for a player like him for a long time. It’s like he didn’t come in, score 5 goals in his first 20 games and separate Lucic’s shoulder so he must not be up to the task. To me, he showed nothing to lead me to believe that he won’t become the type of player he was scouted as. A phyiscal, offesively adept forward. I love this trade because my two favorite teams got what they needed.
by lgbfromoregon on Feb 29, 2012 11:11 PM EST up reply actions
Too early for top six. He has good hands and a decent accurate shot. Strong as an ox on the puck.
I think it’s more of a mental issue with him. He was apparently disappointed that he didn’t get a professional contract before last season after he won the memorial cup and his play dropped up. He put up decent enough numbers in junior last year but he consistently took shifts off. I don’t know if he’s mentally really come back from that yet.
thanks for all the insight, guys :)

He's timid as fuck now that's he's playing with guys his own size.
Ok that’s not true but it might as well be. He used to hit everything in sight but once he got to the NHL that wasn’t true. Even his first couple of Amerks games (which I watched in person) he was hitting everything. Then he seemed to shy away from hitting, especially for someone his size. By the 3rd and 4th Amerks game that I was at I found myself constantly asking if he was even playing.
I guess I just expected someone compared to Bertuzzi and Lucic to do more Lucic and Bertuzzi type things in his rookie season. I didn’t expect points but I expected balls to the wall play from someone trying to prove that he belongs in the NHL now. If Gerbe could do it, Kassian should easily do it.
He’s still young and if he ever gets his head into the game every shift he’ll be good to great, he’s impossible to knock off the puck down low… but if he does’t then he’s going to be incredibly frustrating. (Like he was the last few games as a Sabre.) I honestly could see him as a healthy scratch in the playoffs this year for a couple games.

I can’t believe that was only his 4th goal of the season. Absurd. Maybe he can make up for it and go on a crazy hot streak to propel us into the playoffs again.
or maybe certain types of players just dont perform well in buffalo, under this coach. he’s not the only player who;s come here, started out well, and gotten progressively worse the longer he’s been here. or maybe he is, can’t think too well right now

Knocked unconscious for a bit. Ended an incredibly promising pitching career. (I still almost played D-1 as an OF/2B until I decided it wasn’t worth it.) I couldn’t throw a ball from the mound without closing my eyes immediately after and flinching on contact.

That is tough. I am surprised how some pitchers in the MLB can bounce back and continue to pitch after taking one in the face. D-1 is impressive, I really couldn’t make any level after High School. My team had a good senior year, but my athletic ability is almost non-existent to put it mildly.

It takes solid brass balls.
I had the seams of the ball in the side of my head for awhile. We were sectional champs my junior year and the #1 ranked small school in the state for my entire senior year until we finally lost in states. 22-1 or 25-1, somewhere around there. We went through the league beating our opponents by an average score of something like 14-2. It was ridiculous.

Nice!
I had seams in my face from summer ball when a bad throw to first hit me in the eye (tried to pick it and failed). We lost the Class B State Championship our senior year (won the next year), but we really were not expected to do anything….I was one of 3 seniors on the team. Top ranked small school in Section 6, third ranked Class B school in the State, and went 23-8 for the season…will always be my most memorable high school highlight.
