Daily Links for Thursday, February 2
If the hockey gods were interested in justice, they certainly didn't show it last night; the Buffalo Sabres were robbed of a much-deserved win over the New York Rangers by virtue of King Henrik's glove. The Sabres played what might have been their hardest working game of the year, and lo and behold, the fans actually responded and got the FNC rocking during the 3rd period and OT.
Rangers Vs. Sabres, Rangers Beat Sabres 1-0 In Shootout - Blueshirt Banter
The Rangers and Sabres met tonight in Buffalo in a game that was expected to be a physical, hard fought battle between the best team in the East and the most inconsistent team in the East.

Gaustad pesters Rangers with play - The Buffalo News
Sabres center Paul Gaustad drove the Montreal Canadiens crazy Tuesday night with three points and some quality on-ice chirping. Maybe he let his play do more of the talking Wednesday against the New York Rangers but Gaustad was again a pest, especially on the penalty kill.
What We Learned From January - Sabres Hockey Central
Here is a look at the Sabres game by game schedule and results for the month of January.

If the Canucks want to get over that Stanley Cup hump, dealing Cory Schneider before the NHL Trade Deadline might be the only way to do it.

Out of the 16 trades that I've identified as "big moves" to bring in offense to the Los Angeles Kings since the Bernie Nicholls trade... only 2 players showed an increase in Points Per Game from their prior team.

That was the most heartbreaking loss of the season IMHO
I think everyone would agree the Sabres were firing on all cylinders last night. The defense was really tight — so tight that I was surprised the Rangers fired as many shots as the stats showed. Miller was on fire. They played clean, hard hockey at both ends of the rink. The penalty-kill was in-your-face and aggressive without leaving holes for the Rangers to exploit. And the Sabres created plenty of chances, including the devastating miss in the final seconds of OT. Hopefully Ruff and the boys can turn this loss into a win and build on the momentum of the effort, and not get totally dejected that even their best effort isn’t good enough. Against most teams in the NHL, that effort would’ve produced 2 points.
Despite losing the tiebreaker
This should be ultra confidence-inspiring and help with momentum-building. Miller is proving that he still has it and he can/should still be our #1 (hope he keeps it up, too). The defense, now healthy, shows that they can be elite. The offense… they’re working on finishing but we all know they can get it together…. or most of them can, at least. Some offensive tweaking might be the focus of future transactions (based more on this season overall than on any one game).
Sometimes it just doesn't happen
even to the best teams! But at least, since the break, this team actually looks like…well, a team! They are playing competitive (and watchable) hockey again, which is great regardless of where they end up in the standings.
I also can’t help but think if TV was out there that the game would have ended differently.

Most intense game of the year
I agree – best Sabres effort in a long time.
Past three games have been a move in the right direction
Now if the Sabres could just stop turning it over more than a rotisserie oven.
Go Sabres!
Kings vs. Blue Jackets
That is not a good situation at all. GFL figuring that out Colin.

Yea I can’t believe that. Even when LeBrun asked Campbell if they could change the result, Campbell says:
No you can’t. Once the game is over, it’s over…
Why is that the truth? Call the game a tie and play an OT before their March 8th meeting….it would only be 5 minutes and then a shootout at maximum. Yes, the game would be played in Columbus, but it is so stupid to claim that NOTHING can be done about it. They could consider the playing in Columbus to be punishment for LA screwing up the clock situation anyways…
"We’re gonna win the Stanley Cup. Then, you know what, we’re gonna win it again,"
-Terry Pegula
They should just dock LA a standings point, give one to Columbus, and call it a day.

I guess it's science
From the Los Angeles Times, here’s the explanation Lombardi emailed out:
“Those clocks are sophisticated instruments that calculate time by measuring electrical charges called coulombs — given the rapidity and volume of electrons that move through the measuring device the calibrator must adjust at certain points which was the delay you see. The delay is just recalibrating for the clock moving too quickly during the 10—10ths of a second before the delay. This insures that the actual playing time during a period is exactly 20 minutes.
“That is not an opinion -— that is science -— amazing device quite frankly.”

I hate that show.
It’s the new 3 and a Half Men as far as I’m concerned.

agree
i enjoyed several episodes of ‘big bang’ in the first season, however as soon as the characters expanded beyond the four main nerds, it jumped the shark. ‘three and a half men’ is probably the worst show (despite eye-candy) i’ve ever seen.
I just hate how it's so "OMGLOOKATHOWNERDYTHESENERDSARE".
That and I hate laugh tracks. Community is commuted to its nerdery but does so in an organic way and doesn’t hit you over the head with it.

lol, pretty much. Usually the NBC comedy writers are dialed into SNL in some what so I tend to like what they have more than the other networks, really I’m more of a Lucky Louie/Louie on FX (LL because HBO let him speak more how he speaks.) Then the water down for cable, then to network you can only get so much.
It was just how Lombardi ended that quote that the pic just felt apropos.

Glad he's back in Roc
My fav prospect for sure. Don’t want him to lose confidence playing too much in the bigs.
