George Parros?
With all the speculation about Getzlaf and Ryan earlier in the year, I started thinking about other Ducks, notably Parros. The Sabres are certainly in need of some grit. While Parros doesn't score much, the upside is that the Sabres would have one of the truly tough heavyweights in the league, someone who could fight and win against anyone, anywhere. There's a lot to be said for that factor. Parros is also cheaper than Cody McCormick (although he isn't a Center) and he is a free agent after this season. He is also a little older than most of the Sabres (32) and has won a Cup, so he could provide some of the veteran leadership the team needs.
On the negative side, he is 32 and doesn't play Center. Cody also has another year left on his deal (for an absurd 1,250,000) so it is unlikely we could trade him. He'd more than likely have to be buried in the AHL I presume. Anyway, thoughts?

I wouldn’t mind it, but I have to think what Pominville said over the All-Star break – that he liked his team and that they could win as they were – must be at least part of the reason why the Sabres have some extra confidence and are winning right now. Also, I like Cody McCormick and he has stepped up in every situation necessary, other than the Lucic incident when he still had a broken hand. Fighters/grit players are more team specific; I think someone who’s fought with this team since the beginning would be more willing to step up for his teammates than a random deadline acquisition.
I don't agree
I think Kaleta has stepped up more than Cody this year in a big way. Sure Cody has fought, but I think it would be nice to have a player who could fight and win consistently.
I’m not one of those “the Sabres should beat everyone up” people. I just think if you’re going to have grit, it should be grit that is cheap and good at what they do. Cody has not lived up to that this year. We’re paying him $625,000 per assist or $178,571 per fight. He played well last year, and if we just want to say “Well this was a bad year for everyone” that’s fine. But I think a fourth line minus Ellis and McCormick would help this team.
Also, Cody started with the Avs for awhile. He’s really only been on the Sabres for 2 seasons – he’s hardly fought with them since the beginning.
Well yea, McCormick hasn’t been on the Sabres since 1970, but he did go to the playoffs with the team last year and, more importantly, he’s been with the team since the begginning of this rough season. And of course a line without Ellis and him is better, but I don’t think Parros improves that. If the Sabres want to go a different direction and try and find some more skill for the fourth line, fine. But if they want to replace McCormick with a guy who’s purpose is the same as his then I don’t really agree with the move.

I don’t think the Sabres need to acquire “Grit.” The Sabres need to add some consistent scoring and depth at the Center Position.
Parros may get you some brownie points when playing teams like the Bruins but he doesn’t add anything in the offensive end of the game.

Does Parros do anything that McCormick can't?
Besides grow a nice mustache and read Faulkner, no.

McCormick is more of a middleweight. Parros is definitely a heavyweight. He’s not going to help the scoring situation, but neither has McCormick (he of the two assists and no goals all year).
Part of this is massive disappointment with how McCormick has played this year. He seemed a lot hungrier last year. This year, he seems more AHL-caliber.
Mustache growth and Faulkner reading is a definite plus in my opinion.
Like Kaleta said
winning the fight is often inconsequential. It’s showing that you’re willing to get in the fight in the first place that matters and McCormick is plenty willing.

Enforcers
Players that are strictly enforcers are not very popular or necessary in today’s NHL. (See: Andrew Peters)
Yet Parros is just about the second most popular player on the Ducks after Teemu.

I rec’d that shit.
I think the biggest problem the Sabres have faced this year has been a lack of consistent scoring. I am not a big fan of having the enforcer who can only fight and plays only 3 minutes a game. The Red Wings and Bruins have tough players who can play! Shawn Thornton comes to mind when I think of a tough guy who also can contribute.
I have been disappointed in McCormicks play this year. I thought he was a better skater than what he has shown this year. I would take Ellis over McCormick right now.
I had hopes about Papa Kass being the new badass on the team with the right amount of toughness and scoring. I have been disappointed in what I`ve seen in his toughness. He has played more like Pussy Kass in Rochester and Buffalo this year.
I don't think Kass is the answer on the toughness front
His skating is the weakest part of his game so it seems clear that skating and consistent scoring is what he’s been paying attention to. Hardly a bad thing. But I also think they don’t want Kassian to develop a reputation as a dirty player, which is the reputation he developed in Windsor.
That’s part of where the conspiracy theorist in me comes out. If a Sabre gets tough and physical he is a “dirty player” or a “disgrace” while if a Bruin or Flyer it does, all the Mike Milburys of the world pay them accolade after accolade.
Marcus Foligno
I had hoped that they would have called him up when McCormick got hurt. I heard he has been one of the best forwards in Rochester the last month or so and has been using his size to create space. I think he could provide a spark on the 3rd or 4th line.
Maybe Kassian is simply trying not to get suspended every other game?
And just because he doesn’t drop the gloves every game doesn’t mean he’s being a “pussy”.

LINDY
In his interview on WGR55 this morning said that he thought that Kassian needed to “ramp up his physical play.” I guess I`m not the only one who think he needs to be a more physical presence.
Needing to be more physical ≠ being a pussy.

maybe...
Maybe I am being too hard by calling him P. Kass., but a player like him needs to show up physically so he gets more room. In Lucic`s rookie year, he ran over everyone who got in his way. Maybe a better description of Kass right now is to call him Kitty Kass.
