Paul Hamilton is now saying that his sources in the organization are saying that even if the Sabres lose every game for the rest of the season, they will not fire Darcy and Lindy during the season.
At least as far as Darcy, this is non news. GM’s almost never get fired during the season. As for Lindy – well, there are only 30 some odd games left. I don’t have a problem with this, but I have a feeling that the “whiner line” fans will be driven completely primate feces by it.

Ruff love

I agree it doesn’t make much sense to fire Lindy now, but, come on, he has done nothing to get this team to the Cup. 14years. In any other city he would have been gone years ago.

I wish the Snooze would give Sullivan and Gleason their walking papers. Those two add nothing a value to local sports discussion.

You should send that to bucky.

I bet Bucky would have a pithy response.

by Philaster on Jan 26, 2012 12:44 PM EST up reply actions

Don’t worry guys, he doesn’t pay much attention to comments anyway (he just writes entire articles directly calling out specific quotes from articles that are months old).

I know they are trying to sell papers, but does anyone buy the paper to read his column? I would much rather have an objective analysis of our team instead of the bunch of crap that he always writes.

As you can see from this table, Columbus is an unstoppable colossus of failure.

So...

Jeff Carter is apparently available… I know his contract is nuts, BUT, his value is also failry low right now. I don’t even think he’d be a good fit here, I’m just bored.

by JSCoope on Jan 26, 2012 1:30 PM EST reply actions

Only if we trade another dumb contract for him, but Columbus is probably stupid enough to do something like that… so buy those carter jerseys!

That begs the question – who has the dumbest contract on the Sabres? Would it be Leino or Stafford?

by Philaster on Jan 26, 2012 1:46 PM EST up reply actions

Leino, eventually stafford will score goals at twice his current rate (he’s not shooting 6% forever)

by Ubiquitous on Jan 26, 2012 1:48 PM EST up reply actions

I’d agree Leino’s contract is worse, but I don’t think I’m ready to give up on him yet. I think Stafford is colossally skate bitten. He’s shown good instincts over this stretch – just can’t catch many breaks.
I have to say, the contracts have been managed well. Everyone else that I might want to get rid of (cough cough Derek Roy) is kind of a bargain.

by Philaster on Jan 26, 2012 2:01 PM EST up reply actions

Basically Darcy would be the best GM ever if we brought in a trade deadline consultant and locked him in a room with no phones for the entirety of July 1. (though really, that second one would make all GMs better at their job)

What would it actually take? Isn’t his hit around 5.5mil/year?

by JSCoope on Jan 26, 2012 2:01 PM EST up reply actions

They’d probably be looking for close to what they paid, to validate the trade they made.

He'd immediately become

our douchiest player. And probably our toughest.

Not gonna lie

The prospect of another 40 goal scorer is intriguing. But I think he’s better suited at wing and I don’t think we need shoot-first wingers.

by JSCoope on Jan 26, 2012 2:49 PM EST up reply actions

It is quite a long-term deal, that’s for certain. The cap hit seems like one you would be able to be ok with but when you think about having it on the books for that long…. I’d be pretty hesitant to make a move like that, especially for someone who came to a new city already pissed and not wanting to be there. He could be a valuable player, but if he isn’t that’s one big bill for services not rendered.

by VFN FTW on Jan 26, 2012 2:54 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah that cap hit’s going to start to hurt in 5 years or so when his production starts dropping. Plus we already have a few guys locked up long term. That’s tough, but maybe the sort of thing this team needs to do.

by Frank Reich Revolution on Jan 26, 2012 4:04 PM EST up reply actions

At the very least

he’d give us a fantastic first line.
