In other news: Jochen Hecht is now 4th in goals per game because Tyler Ennis “passed” him.

I dont know how you guys keep pushing out these articles.
My god, reading them drains me… you guys must feel like groundhogs day writing these.
I hate that I love Buffalo.

While I’m not a fan of Travis for the most part, this article is incredibly well written. Maybe worth a feature tomorrow?
Enjoys long walks on the beach, Molson Canadian, and making the playoffs.
It’s hard for me to grasp that the local broadcasters still have enough pull to be able to prevent the NHL from doing this. You have to think that it’s just a matter of time before this gets changed.

Yeah, even if they charged 40$ extra just for local broadcasts and passed all of it to the local broadcaster, i imagine a lot of people would pay for it. And there’s no way the broadcaster gets 40$ from each individual cable subscriber (Unless of course they are cablevision and are also the cable company)

Good lord those are some ugly Corsi/Fenwick numbers for the Staff/Gerbe/Roy line. And yet they were +. Go figure.

/- over short periods of time is totally worthless. Over longer stretches(like 40 games), its barely useful.

It’s just kind of funny that a line that gets totally shelled still ends up outscoring their opposition.

see bottom left ;)

Thanks ogre for putting that in the sbn resources so i can link it tons! :) If only the Sabres could get some of that on the team level.

It's funny
If the Sabres were Moderately bad, I wouldn’t care at all about them. If they were moderately good, I would care about them. But I find when the team is either epically bad or epically good is when I care the most. I’m actually beyond the point of being upset when the Sabres lose. It’s a good place to be. This year is lost, but depending on how things shake out, I think they have a good chance to be very, very good next year. Very good. I think for the first time in years, perhaps decades, we have a great opportunity to assemble a Championship caliber team. Some of the pieces are already in place. Let’s hope Darcy or whoever doesn’t blow it in the offseason.

I think I’m in the same place. For a while there I was getting extremely frustrated and annoyed because I had such high hopes for them and they actually looked pretty good once upon a time. But now that i’ve accepted that they suck and there’s no hope for this year, rather than simply tuning out I still find myself very interested in the team without getting too discouraged by the actual results of games. It’s just that my interest has shifted to more of a big-picture, future-oriented thing.

agreed!
you hit the nail on the head…. i was feeling the same way a few days ago…. ‘you know, if the sabres were playing moderately well, i wouldn’t really give them two thoughts’ (as i’m a leafs fan living in buffalo), but now that they’re really down and out, i can’t help but look at them under a magnifying glass. the leafs have been in the toilet for so many years, i always get behind buffalo during play-off times… now that the tables seem to be turning, it’s exciting for me, but i wish the sabres were more competitive as a play-off series between the two teams would be great! (of course you can point out that the sabres usually have good luck against toronto regardless of the standings).
For whatever reason, I think because of the crowd situation at home games, the Sabres only seem to really get motivated when playing the Leafs.
Because the leaf fans cheer at hockey games! They chant! They don’t hate their team!
(of course road fans are ALWAYS more vocal, its just only really noticable when half the fans in the building are road fans)

I hear ya brother

I try to go to at least 1 game a month and nothing is worse when you see a stinker, where you just know they are so flat and they are down so far, that there is probably no chance to win after the first period. Luckily this months game was a win vs Edmonton and a good time instead of a riding the metro back home disappointed.
