I never liked the song, and after watching this…I do not like the band either.

It’s a way better goal song than that lump of shit the Maple Leafs use.

I could break out my Tuba and play a better goal song than the Leafs have…..that is not a fair comparison.

it’s in the top 3 in the NHL. “Let’s go Rangers” (NYR) and “Crowd Chant” (MIN) are the only ones that I think come close to Chelsea Dagger.

The Leafs song? Or Chelsea’s Dagger? And top 3 of being used by teams? Or well liked? Sorry, I am just confused.

This is about not letting the man next to you down and taking pride in your sweater. This is about 20 men, for 60 minutes. Lets go!

and we are playing the blackhawks. so i wasnt expecting a shut out. but as long as we play hard, i’ll be at least sorta happy. getting a point would be nice, but I don’t want to ask for too much. it’s not like we’re 3 games into a 7 game road trip or anything, or like we have no points yet from said road game. nope, not like thats the situation at all.

The Difference

Sabres hit a post and go into a shell; “woe is me.”

Blackhawks hit a post and smell blood in the water.

"If we needed any more motivation to win a Cup sooner than later, we've got one now," Black said. "I really want to listen to the game that RJ calls when he finally gets to shout out, 'Buffalo wins the Stanley Cup.'"

I didn’t mean during the same shot sequence, I meant in mentality of the rest of the game. It seems when the Sabres miss their chance they don’t keep diggin’ and drive the net. While teams like Chicago and Detroit keep driving and are more tenacious.

would you agree that for the most part you miss a lot more chances than you bury? so to bury some good goals, you have to have lots of near misses as well? and what does it say about us that we can’t accept this simple aspect of hockey, instead of sulking over every stupid little opportunity that didnt end up on the scoreboard

Trades

I’m starting to see what the whole “no trade can fix this” talk is about. It’s not like the team is playing well but can’t finish chances, so a sniper would solve that. They can’t get out of their own way. You either wait it out or blow it up, but there’s no in-season move that would save us by April.

by silvermike on Jan 18, 2012 8:59 PM EST reply actions

no, but

we could dump some salary and get some needed space to try to sign/trade people in the offseason, get some good pieces to help us next year, etc.

lol i didnt say we could fix this season

cuz we can’t. but we could try to fix our team, which is far more important than trying to salvage a playoff run this year, cuz face it, that won’t happen. i mean, we could make the playoffs and even win a round (which we haven’t done in four years) but it wont be the result of any trades, you are correct. I still think its worth doing. theres a lot of great talent available for a trade, or parise will be a UFA, and with the guys in anaheim, that kind of talent is not usually available every year, so I think itd be worth it to try to start putting together a team for next year

The sick part

It feels like it isnt that bad of a game. A couple bad PK plays, some boneheaded transition, a couple mental errors that should be easily correctable.

Am I trying to oversimplify this in my head to minimize my frustration or something like that?

I mean really, chip it in deep when you get pressure, clean up the special teams, make the simple play and a little hard work.

I have a problem, it’s obvious.

SICK SICK SICK!!! Absolutely no logic, heart, or dedication with this team. They already look like they are playing out the string and the coaches and management are still feeding the same boring replies. This team has given up on the coach and the season. Even guys like Phil Jackson and Lou Holtz had to step down because the team stopped caring, and that is what has happened. I would say let them play it out so Lindy can retire or something but this is embarrassing and should be shut down now while we can at least LOOK like we care for the next two months (since we won’t get any more)

by VenoMinon on Jan 18, 2012 10:23 PM EST up reply actions

Yowza!

What are the odds the Sabres just scrap the Three Year Plan, unload most of the vets, and go young to start this thing over? Go Oilers on us. Give me Kassian, McNabb, Brennen, Adam, Foligno, Whitmore, Chewy, Tropp, Schiestel…bring in a new coach, new FO, the whole shebang? I would find that immensely more entertaining that the product on the ice now.

At this point, I’d happily take Teddie Nolan’s teams of scrappers, reclamation projects, and 3rd liners than this bunch of overpaid slackjobs who drift for long periods throughout the game. At least Nolan’s guys put in some heart.

Right now, my untouchable list is laughable (not including the young guys): Kaleta, Gerbe, Pommer, Myers, Regehr…I’d can be convinced to toss Vanek on there too, but don’t tell me he hasn’t been invisible for the last several weeks/month. Sure he might be banged up, but that doesn’t excuse him. He’s taken to specializing in firing a rink-wide pass through three guys to no one instead of driving to the net with the puck.

Tonight, I kept watching saying, “Oh. Weber, out of position. Huh. What a surprise.” and ‘Oh. Gragnani/Leopold pushed off the puck/coughed it up. What a shock." and "Oh, Stafford just blindly dumps the puck in the corner despite having nobody there. Why even look for a centering pass? I’m stunned." Or “Oh. [enter forward’s name here] outworked for the puck. And while the Hawks go the other way, they drift over the bench with their heads down. Way to work, boys.”

I feel bad for the young kids like Brennen who come up and have to see this kind of gutless performance. Wonder what it does to their psyche? “Hey, established veteran, how come we suck so bad.?” “I don’t know. We just do. Hey, what can you do?”

by T McGee on Jan 18, 2012 11:08 PM EST reply actions

yeah, I would so much prefer to have go the oilers route. I mean, looking at our veterans, besides the couple you mentioned, who is there that’s worth keeping? Who here could you build a team around? … anyone? …. any of them? shit, none of them really look like corner stones. Back in the day I would have said miller, but now I’m not so sure. I definately want to keep poms and vanek because we need a little bit of veteran forwards, but the sabres haven’t had rock solid anybody for a while it feels like. briere and drury, henrik and tony, those were guys I could see building around. None of our so-called core look like the kind of hockey players that I want my young prospects to look up to and base their attitudes and playing styles on. The vast majority look like dead weight. =( I don’t mean to sound like i enjoy ragging on the team. I love the sabres and always will, I just so badly want them to be good. Hell, even just being relevant would be a great start.
