Buffalo Sabres v. New York Islanders - By the Numbers
The Sabres continue to be the only team without a winning streak since early November. It looked like they had a chance to break the streak on Saturday night despite some sloppy play, especially in their own zone. Jhonas Enroth was outstanding and Derek Roy finally found the back of the net. Unfortunately the mistakes eventually caught up with Buffalo and Micheal Grabner gave the Islanders a late lead.
Buffalo had one last chance to tie the score but Thomas Vanek hit the goal post on a penalty shot with just over one minute left in the game. Grabner added an empty net goal and the Sabres head to Detroit on a one game losing streak.

Will be at the next game vs. Red Wings
Would love to see a turning point. A win against a high-caliber team could really spark some confidence. That underdog mentality is back, maybe they can shrug off the high expectations and grind out a win. Of course, they will need to be more composed defensively than they were last night, and hopefully the referees aren’t blind again. Any injury updates?
Question about last night's penalty shot
Could Vanek have put a regular helmet on for that shot? Is there a rule against it?
Last night was frustrating – despite some of the worst giveaways I’ve seen since whenever, we still could’ve won the game. Enroth was brilliant, he really deserved the W.
Here’s hoping they stand up tall to detroit and chicago.
I believe he could have.
At least that’s what the Islander announcers said.
