Will the Sabres be making any trades to free up cap space?
The Buffalo Sabres are over the cap signing Grags. Assuming Kotalik and Morrison go to the minors. Arent we still over???? Im assuming with our full lineup the likes of Luke Adam, Kassian and ant others goin to camp will not be joining the team this year at least in the beginning with our full lineup. If anyone was to go to free up space personally I would say Hecht. Just a thought and didnt know if anyone had some clarification on that. So excited for this year and the Rochester Americans as well. Lets GO BUFFALO!.....Go Amerks!

They ca bury some guys in the minors as well
to clear salary room i thought.
The player I would like least at #9 would be my sister’s cat, Captain Creamsicle. She does have a great work ethic and agility, but I’m really concerned that at 9 lbs., she’s too small to play safety in the NFL. She also bites way too often on play action and is easily distracted by someone waving string in the crowd. Lastly, her wonderlic score was pretty awful, answering "meow meow meow" for most of the questions- Dr. Brackish Okun

The Sabres are, including Grags, about 4 million over the cap. Demoting Morrisonn (2.075M) and Kotalik (3M) will get us about 1M under the cap. Hecht is staying. The only trade you can realistically hope for is Morrisonn for a mid-to-late-round draft pick or an obscure prospect. Kotalik has no trade value whatsoever. Buyouts are not necessary given Pegula’s deep pockets.
Rumors say some teams are sniffing around Morrison
Hecht won’t be going anywhere. Darcy overpaid for this useless player and no one is interested in taking on his salary. He is one of Darcy’s lovable core players that have held the Sabres down for years.
Do you have links or sources for the Morrisonn rumors?
As for Hecht, he’s a very solid defensive forward that almost any team in the NHL would want on their PK and shutdown line. He is not holding this team back from anything unless he is playing on the top 2 lines (which only happens when the team is dealing with multiple injuries at center). I am sure we could get some return on him (even if it is just a draft pick) but no one is dumb enough to trade our most veteran Sabre at the end of his contract. He isn’t that overpaid, and it’s not your money anyway right?

Agree
Hecht could be considered overpaid in terms of production, but his real value lies in his versatility. I wouldn’t necessarily be opposed to trading him, but only if we got something of correspondent value in return. Offloading him for a middling prospect or a low pick just to free up some cap space would be a step back, especially now that money is little object to our ownership regime.
My guess as to the source of the rumors

I haven’t given up on trading Morrisonn, and I won’t until it’s November and he’s still here. I don’t see him cracking a seven-man D-squad given our talent at the position; but at the same time, given his age and NHL resume he seems out of place on an AHL roster. Someone out there has a use for him. We’ve just got to wait till everyone’s injury and training camp situations shake out. I also wouldn’t be shocked if we lose Brad Boyes – I don’t expect it, but we have a surplus of scoring right-wingers which makes him more expendable than most.
I'm with you on Boyes..
Not that i want him gone but Darcy has proven to stick with “his” guys and guys brought in are much more expendable.
