Andrej Sekera Files For Arbitration
The longest-tenured Rej on the team is handing over his future to a total stranger who will decide how much money the Sabres have to pay to keep him. His agent says they will continue to negotiate with Buffalo, for what it's worth.

Not true, they could still negotiate up until the hearing. Besides, from what I’m hearing its length of contract instead of money, which a one year arbitration result isnt going to solve.

Thanks Rej
I hope you like your new team next year.
In all seriousness based on last year’s RFA draft pick compensation thresholds, Rej was worth a contract low in the 2nd round compensation zone (~$1.5-3M) . I did not see him worth a 1st and 3rd (~$3-4.6M). Given past arbitration awards and the contracts given this free agency season I can see his arbitration award in the ~$3-4.6M zone and that’s too high.
I'm glad that the Sabres and Sekera
Are at least still negotiating as of now. Maybe they can come to an agreement before arbitration.
The player I would like least at #9 would be my sister’s cat, Captain Creamsicle. She does have a great work ethic and agility, but I’m really concerned that at 9 lbs., she’s too small to play safety in the NFL. She also bites way too often on play action and is easily distracted by someone waving string in the crowd. Lastly, her wonderlic score was pretty awful, answering "meow meow meow" for most of the questions- Dr. Brackish Okun
He deserves 2-2.5M for sure.
They still pay Morrissonn 2M , no way Sekera gets less than that. Most teams will be happy to grab him if the Sabres walk away.
I can’t see this team walking away from the result unless its ridiculous but then again I said that last year as well.

Really can't compare Sekera & TK
I totally understand why they’d be unwilling to overpay – even a little bit – for a bad-fit forth-liner when they had plenty of better, younger guys to take his spot. Reg is actually good at what he does. On a related note, he is not only the longest tenured Reg on the team but the longest tenured defenseman, which is just bonkers.
Yes, I would
When Sekera was in Gerbe’s shoes (coming out of EL contract) he only got 1M/year. Now he is an experienced player. Gerbe is still a rookie and needs to prove he can be be valuable consistently.
Technically Gerbe isn’t a rookie anymore.

The sides can negotiate a new deal until the hearing, which would take place between July 20 and Aug. 4. Defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani elected not to file for arbitration.
So… MAG and Enroth didn’t file for arbitration.. where do they go from here?

I would assume it means they are negotiating but can be given offer sheets.

If we lose Sekera to a cap crunch, I shall be a very unhappy camper. And Leino will be feeling the full brunt of my wrath.
It was tied for me between Sekera and Weber for RFA’s I can lose. Sekera can score, sure, but he’s a horrible defensive liability sometimes. And we know how much Lindy loves that. I wouldn’t be that shocked if he becomes a UFA.
Would hate to lose him for nothing though. Maybe they can sign the deal then package him in a trade if need be.

Indeed, this
I actually like Sekera a lot. While I don’t particularly mind losing him, I hate to lose guys for nothing. Especially guys like Sekera who we’ve developed for some time and are really starting to blossom.
