Deal Done?!

Rumors hitting the internet hard that Robyn Regehr has accepted his trade to the Buffalo Sabres.  He brings with him Shootout Specialist Alex Kotalik (trying to be nice here)... going to Calgary you ask???

Center Paul Byron, Defenseman Chris Butler and a Draft Pick (supposedly a 2nd rounder).

Personally, I think this is a great deal for the Sabres!!!  Regehr is a HUGE upgrade over Butler and Byron was not going to fit on a squad with Ennis, Gerbe and Roy already filling in as Mighty Smurfs.  Honestly, I love all 3 of those guys... have to give credit to guys who perform against greater odds due to their size.  That's heart.

Damn the shootout specialist...

But overall…awesome deal. I have wanted Regehr for awhile…I am fine taking some money back to get him. Nice move Darcy.

I like it!

Sweet! Regehr will be a great addition to the squad, and offer some much needed veteran leadership as well. I like the way this offseason is beginning. And, I like the draft pick as well.

We got the 2nd rounder

Being reported that we got the 2nd round pick from Calgary. Not the other way around.

Deal gets even better!

Bob McKenzie originally reported that the Sabres gave up their 2012 2nd round pick… however, since then I’ve read on NHL.com and a Calgary publication states that the Sabres received the 2nd round pick. Which, in all honesty, makes more sense since the Sabres agreed to take on $7 million in salary ($4mil for Regehr and $3mil for Kotalik) in return for about $1.5mil combined between Byron and Butler.

I was going to point that out, but you got here first. Good deal overall for Buffalo. Let us wait and see how Kotalik pans out.

The "new" Buffalo Sabres are here! With Superman Pegula handing out the funds, they can do anything and everything!

That's why I think this trade is a big win for Darcy.

Butler for Regehr is a win and Byron for a 2nd rounder is a win. If we get anything from Kotalik, it’s a bonus.

Classic salary dump:

A great but expensive player and a terrible and overpaid player and a spare pick for two promising and inexpensive young players. With the right conditions, it can be a win-win situation. I think it seems like a good trade, and time will tell if things work out for either team.
