Thrashers, Atlanta were never given a chance
AJC blogger Jeff Schultz details his perspective on the Thrasher move to Winnipeg. I personally feel for the fanbase; while they are small, I feel that the failure of the franchise is due to an extremely poor ownership and management team....this then lead to a poor turnout at the turnstiles.

Atlanta in the NHL, just like Washington in MLB lost two franchises because of incompetent management which led to perpetually losing seasons and fan apathy. MLB was so desperate to get back in the potentially lucrative Washington market, despite the long established fact that the fanbase simply did not care, that their commissioner was willing to face RICO Act charges to do it. Atlanta is a financially lucrative market. A team will come back, eventually.
