Philly’s D seems to be able to keep us to the parameter for our shots in the zone. While we did have 37 shots last night, were a lot of them good scoring chances? Even without Pronger, Philly is able to limit how much we hurt them in the zone by taking the body and forcing us to take poor shots far from Boucher. Capitalizing on our scoring chances and taking better shots will definitely win us game 4.

While I agree with that to some extent, I think our problems lie elsewhere. Philly’s D is very strong, with or without Pronger. Getting 37 shots and even getting the quality that we had is a feat. Our problem is in two things offensively: failure to capitalize on the PP at key times, and failure to bury chances. We are getting to the net and crashing hard. We just need to finish our chances. Taking any shots, even if poor, are good shots to take against Boucher. Just look at the second goal last night: Connolly takes a wrister from the top of the circles which Boucher throws out a huge rebound to Gerbe.
On another note, both goals last night were scored high on Boucher…I would bet you will see a LOT of high shots in Game 4 from the Sabres.

I agree with that assessment. If we can put some of Boucher’s rebounds in the back of the net, we would be in a different situation. Good points.

If you are curious about scoring chances, I believe toddthefox is still tracking them at BSH. He started during the end of the regular season for the Flyers. I’m hoping that he posts them for the playoffs soon. If he does, I’ll drop a link in the comments of a flyby.

Geoff has Boosh, Mike's got Powe, Nodl is all mine!
So is David Oleksy… I’d really like to compare the two though to see how consistant different scorers are.
I suspect they match up fairly well, but will not match up with the “official count”

Yeah, I know Todd is a bit self conscious about being too liberal for crediting scoring chances. I think he matched up fairly closely with George for a Flyers Rangers game, so I would imagine they are all fairly close.

It would be nice to see Ruff put the players who have been performing
on the same line, and give them more ice time. Gerbe has been one of our best players yet has been near the bottom in ice time this series. It seems there is more concern with checking as much as Philly instead of scoring as much as them.
Also, is Hecht ever coming back?

Agreed
I seriously doubt we’re going to out-check Philly (despite Gaustad and company’s best efforts). Maybe next game we can come out with some speed instead.
And I’m PUMPED for tomorrow’s game.

We could be Chicago or Phoenix. As it is, it’s pretty simple: win tomorrow and you start all over with a best of 3-game series.

Positivity!
The only top-6 defenseman on the Sabres that also was top-6 two years ago is Andrej Sekera.
Their ages in 08-09: 40( :( teppo…), 28, 30, 34, 34, 22 (#7 Chris Butler 22) (31.3 avg)
Their ages in 10-11: 31, 30, 28, 24, 23, 20 (#7 Chris Butler 24) (26 avg)
One other thing i may not care about, but many other people do: This is the first year since 2006-2007 that Sabres backup goaltenders have had a winning record. (well, 9-9, but ITS WAY BETTER THAN 4-17!!!!)

And if I’m not mistaken, the only Sabres with a positive +/-. I think he has to be top 6 next year with his play in this years playoffs (unless he self-destructs.)

I’ll take whichever of him and Shaone Morrissonn is better next year, with the other being a seventh defenseman. (or eighth if we take montador back)

One of the worst parts about this loss? The tools over at Broad Street Hockey are now even more smug (I didn’t think that was possible either) about this series and our blog. Comments like:
Knowing that the Flyers are the better team of the two is fine and all, but it’s nice to have the series score reflect that finally.
Buffalo acted like a bunch of pigs (re: dirty) on Saturday. More of the same (meaning lots of power plays for the Flyers, too, of course)?
Are bad enough, but relatively understandable. Comments like:
Anybody else check out "Die By the Blade" and get a headache reading their comments? Maybe my eyes can’t handle all the green, whether that refers to their envy, or it only taking one rec to green up a comment.
And the fact that 90% of their comments are titles. It’s sites like theirs that make me love this one so much.
I appreciate other blogs a little more now that I have DBTB for comparison.
I should know better than to click over to their site – I don’t deal with ignorance well.

Clearly they don't have anything better to do
I also never thought I’d see the day that the FLYERS called US dirty. That’s clearly a joke. We took penalties, yes. But I wouldnt really consider hooking, holding the stick, roughing, etc dirty penalties. Get your facts straight Flyers douchebags fans! I’d go over there and tell those cheesesteak sucking rocky-lovers what is up, but I wouldn’t be caught dead being a member of that filthy site!
Let’s just hope the Sabres pull their heads up, clean up their own zone, and show the Flyers who the better team really is.

The Flyers fans pride themselves on being dirty – which makes it quite a double standard when they then complain about our weak penalty calls giving them practically endless PP opportunities.

Easy now
If we were up 2-1 I’m sure we’d have our share of smug comments. And, to be fair, the higher seed has earned the right to be smug when they’re up – it’s the expected outcome.
As for bashing DBTB, well, if they want to flash their e-boners around about how great their collection of zeros and ones is, let them. I’m secure enough in our site-hood that it doesn’t bother me.

This is true, smugness will come with a 2-1 lead. The part I don’t like is the random bashing of our site. You don’t like it, stay on your own damn site! Bash our comments (as we bash theirs) but don’t just hate for the sake of hating.

Snapshots of individuals on a fairly large blog is not representative of the group. And in fairness , a lot of green does hurt the eyes, but is a preference here, and I think it’s respected. I’d hope none of the members of BSH would come on here to complain about the green; they keep that in their house which doesn’t seem like that big of a deal IMO. I’m not sure how any of that is indicative of ignorance of the community as a whole.
As a side note, I’ve quite enjoyed the visits from Ubiquitous.

In other news, you can change the rec with a firefox plugin to make it flyers orange. (Well, Maple leaf blue but i’m sure the color can be “Fixed”)

Haha, I think the colors in general bug out my eyes. I hit Z quite a bit when first opening a page just to get rid of the soft yellow. However, it could just bother me because I run a couple huge monitors at work, and if firefox is expanded, holy hell does it get bright.

When I come to a new page, I shift-a to get rid of all the yellow, read through the comments, and then start hitting z to see if anything new has shown up. /shrug
As do I, I misspoke. I hit Z very quickly when reopening a page that has had 50-100 comments since I had last visited. Better? I was just making the comment that so much of any color can be a little tough on the eyes, and that original comment about all the green was kept on BSH, not brought here.
And it’s meaningless conversations like this at BSH that keep us from having many green comments.

I don’t have a problem with it, you kept your complaints here and don’t have anything to apologize for IMO. I’ve just never been a big fan of the whole fanbase war thing (not to say a certain level of good spirited fun shouldn’t be had). We all like hockey, we all talk about it, we all have residents at our home team SBNation blogs that embarrass us.
