As we have all seen during the regular season and the playoffs is Nate Gerbe getting absolutely abused by opposing teams without one penalty called. NHL refs have given players carte blanche for elbows, hooks, and punches to the head..all without any thought of a penalty call. I've deduced that the treatment Gerbe has received is due to one thing...jealousy.
If you happen to watch the NHL network documentary last year that followed NHL refs, you would see that most hockey refs are former junior hockey or career minor leaguers that did not have the size, skill or both to make it to the NHL. Because of that shorcoming, they gave up their NHL dream and settled for becoming refs. Nate Gerbe is the exception to the rule that you have to be 6-ft/200 to become an NHL regular. He lacks NHL size, but in spite of that, will be an NHL player for many years to come.
That eats away at NHL refs that would give anything to be Gerbe...the underdog that goes out an makes it happen, and if it could not happen for them, they will do their damnest to to prevent it from happening for Gerbe.
