Sabres Regular Season Awards: The Calder
As the regular season ends, it is time to give out regular season awards to members of the Blue and Gold. I decided to take the Selke, Hart, Calder, Norris, etc. awards and poll DBTB'ers on who (among the Sabres players) Should have won them. I will try to do one a day or two a day, so that all the major awards are covered. We will continue with the Calder Trophy for rookie of the year. This season featured many exciting Sabres rookies, here are the candidates. This should be a much tighter race than the Hart. It should be noted that this features two former AHL ROY's, Ennis and Gerbe
Tyler Ennis: Ennis got his feet wet in the playoffs last year and excited Sabres fans. The former first rounder from 2008 played all 82 games for the Blue and Gold this year, the only player to do so. Ennis was 4'th on the team for points with 20 goals and 29 assists. Ennis is possibly the fastest skater on the team, and I expect him to be great for quite a few years.
Nathan Gerbe: The pint size Nathan Gerbe started out the season ice cold, not registering a goal til mid December, and once he did he caught fire. Gerbe is incredibly talented, he managed to score two goals in five seconds, and has a ton of people excited. Once the former AHL Rookie of the Year gained his confidence, he played incredible. Physicality and amazing effort came on a nightly basis.
Mike Weber: Weber seems to have quite a big following in online Sabres circles. The stay at home style defenceman was solid in his first rookie campaign and impressively led the team in hits with 158, despite playing only 58 games. It is important for every D-Corps to have a player like Weber and he is a key piece going forward.
Jhonas Enroth: Enroth does not have a huge body of work this season, he went 8-2-2 while playing 769 minutes. He has a 907 SV% a 2.73 GAA. Enroth is mainly on this list because 1. If not for him the Sabres would not be in the playoffsand 2. I think he is a stud goalie.
So there ya go, crush the Flyers boys

Ennis did it all year.
Gerbe would be the pick, if he came to play all year like he did in the final 40 games.
And who knows what Enroth would have done if the Sabres had kept him up all year. Looks like we have our backup goalie for next year, as long as Lindy realizes he has the actually USE THE KID! (I’m thinking 25 games is perfect).
Weber is the new Rhett Warrener. Total meat & potatoes. Every team needs a player like him, and we’re lucky to have him. Lots of good, hard-nosed years ahead of him.
My pick is Gerbe
Just due to the fact that he put up his numbers playing on the 3rd line all year. If he had been allowed to play in the top 6 like Ennis did, he would have put up at least comparable if not better stats.
Fair enough regarding Gerbe putting up numbers on the 3rd line. However, if he had played all year like he did in the last half of the season, he wouldn’t have been on the 3rd line the last 40 games. But I give the kid credit, he battled hard and came to play when it mattered most. Can’t wait to see what he’s like 2-3 years from now.
