Vanek is tied for 5th in scoring and is in the top ten for goals an dis a plus player. But he's only averaging 17:46 in ice time. Of the top ten in the league in goals, six are above 20:00 and the other three are above 18:50. Names like Kessel, Giroux, Stamkos. Why doesn't Vanek play as much as these guys? I mean, simple math would show he could easily get a nice jump in production just by playing the standard amount for a top scoring threat. Lest you think there's something strange about this year so far, here are the last few years:
Vanek 2010-2011 17:21
Vanek 2009-2010 16:45
Vanek 2008-2009 17:11
What in the world is Lindy Ruff doing here? I know Vanek had the rep of not being defensively responsible but he turned that around, no? Am I taking crazy pills? Shouldn't Vanek be getting 20 minutes a game? He'd probably score 50 goals. This and constant line switching are the two things Lindy does that drive me nuts. What's the possible rationale?
