Sabres Week 5 Stock Up/Stock Down

The Buffalo Sabres had a hot and cold sort of week as they laid a complete egg against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night and then came back and scored two wins against the Calgary Flames and Ottawa Senators. The Sabres played their first complete game at home against the Calgary Flames, but ran into an extremely hot goaltender in Henrik Karlsson. The Sabres also were able to pull out their first overtime game of the season against the Senators on Saturday.

Star-divide

Player Status Description
Luke Adam http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217733/up.png (1 goal, 1 assist, 2 points, Even) Adam had a good week, scoring his first goal in seven games against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night. He also had an assist that night, making him one of the lone players that actually had a good game against the Flyers.
Brad Boyes http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png (0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, +1) Boyes's game has picked up since he's been put on the power play but he couldn't register a point in the last three games.
Christian Ehrhoff http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217737/down.png (0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, Even) Ehrhoff's offensive game has been pretty stagnant as he hasn't registered a point in the last three games and a goal in the last eight games. If he isn't going to contribute on offense, then his defense should be pretty solid which it hasn't been.
Tyler Ennis http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217725/cross.png (Did not play, Injured) Ennis is still nursing an ankle injury and his status for return isn't known yet.
Paul Gaustad http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png (0 goals, 1 assist, 1 point, 4 PIM, +1) Gaustad tried to spark something against the Flyers and took four penalty minutes for the trouble. His assist was a second assist coming against the Senators. Gaustad is still solid at faceoffs, his 56.9% is second on the team.
Nathan Gerbe http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217733/up.png (1 goal, 1 assist, 2 points, +2) Gerbe looked fantastic against the Ottawa Senators, taking a few lumps behind the net before getting the puck out and finding Jordon Leopold with an open net.
Marc-Andre Gragnani http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217737/down.png (0 goals, 1 assist, 1 point, -1) Gragnani did register a point against the Flames, but still hasn't scored a goal this season. His defensive miscues are still apparent and his 10 giveaways is third on the team behind Myers and Ehrhoff.
Patrick Kaleta http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217737/down.png (0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, 2 PIM, -1) Kaleta looked alright against the Flyers but took a dumb headbutt and found himself suspended for four games. He won't return until November 12th against the Bruins.
Ville Leino http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217733/up.png (0 goals, 1 assist, 1 point, +1) Leino was originally going to be paired with Thomas Vanek and Jason Pominville against the Flyers. That lasted less than five minutes as the team as a whole stunk up the joint. He was then paired with Derek Roy and Drew Stafford in that game and the line has clicked ever since. He very well may have found his linemates.
Jordon Leopold http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217733/up.png (1 goal, 1 assist, 2 points, +1) Leopold was the team's leading defensive scorer and he showed why this weekend, working his way into the slot and pouncing on a rebound against the Senators.
Cody McCormick http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png (0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, 5 PIM, -1) McCormick got himself into a fight against the Flames and now leads the team in penalty minutes and major penalties.
Tyler Myers http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217737/down.png (0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, +1) Myers started last season out slow and this year has been the same way as he leads the team in giveaways and just looks like a lost giraffe on the ice.
Jason Pominville http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png (0 goals, 1 assist, 1 point, Even) Pominville is still working well with Vanek and Adam and even thought they didn't produce at the alarming rate they have in the past few weeks, they are still generating offense.
Robyn Regehr http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png (0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, 2 PIM, -1) Regehr is still that solid defenseman the Sabres are looking for, but his pairing with Mike Weber didn't prove successful as they were on the ice for two of the Flyers first three goals.
Derek Roy http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217733/up.png (1 goals, 1 assists, 2 points, 4 PIM, -1) Roy has found his scoring touch now and had his best game of the season against the Senators. He scored the opening goal of the game and then scored the game winning shootout goal.
Andrej Sekera http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217733/up.png (1 goals, 2 assists, 3 points, 2 PIM, +2) Sekera has very quietly found himself on a three game point streak and scored his first goal of the season against the Flyers.
Drew Stafford http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217733/up.png (1 goals, 0 assists, 1 points, 2 PIM, Even) Along with Derek Roy, Drew Stafford has found a scoring touch this week. He broke a seven game scoring drought with a goal against the Flames.
Corey Tropp http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png (0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, Even) Tropp's first two NHL games haven't proven much of anything as he has been paired on a line with Matt Ellis and Cody McCormick.
Thomas Vanek http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png (0 goals, 1 assist, 1 point, 2 PIM, +1) The same reasoning for Jason Pominville applies for Thomas Vanek as well. Just because they aren't perfoming at a five point/week rate doesn't mean that they aren't playing well.
Matt Ellis http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png (0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, -2) The Sabres are 3-3 with Ellis in the lineup this season.
Jochen Hecht http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217725/cross.png (Did not play, Long Term Injured Reserve) Hecht just doesn't appear to be getting any better and his status for this season still remains in serious doubt.
Mike Weber http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217737/down.png (0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, 7 PIM, -2) The fans were clamoring for Weber to get into the lineup at some point and they got their wish against the Flyers. Weber went out and laid and egg and found himself in the press box for the rest of the week.
Ryan Miller http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217737/down.png (0-1, 28.40 GAA, .727 SV%) The biggest hot button issue for the fans this week is what is going on with Ryan Miller. He had a really bad week after having a not so great week last week. For that, Enroth was started over him for the last two games.
Jhonas Enroth http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217733/up.png (2-0, 1.44 GAA, .947 SV%) In the stark contrast of how Ryan Miller has looked, Enroth just keeps winning games as he still hasn't lost a game this season.

D grades seem harsh (2U, 1-, 3D)...

for a team that gave up 2 goals/game for the week and killed every penalty they faced.

While Roy did some good things…he was been awful on the PP point. So bad that Myers should not leave the blue line to pinch.

For the 3D Weber and Grags were combined.

Go Sabres!
