Sabres vs. Senators Recap: Sabres Win First Shootout Of The Season

It took the Buffalo Sabres 13 games to get themselves to overtime, but once they got their they won their first shootout of the season in somewhat convincing fashion. Derek Roy scored the game winning shootout goal in a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators

The first surprise of the night came before the game as it was announced that Jhonas Enroth would get the start over Ryan Miller. This was Enroth's second start in a row and third game in a row after Miller had a very bad game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night. Enroth made 25 saves in the winning effort and stopped the final four shooters after allowing the first two goals in the shootout.

Derek Roy had probably his best night of the season, scoring the opening goal of the game on a tip in off a Ville Leino shot. His second goal of the night was the shootout winner which just saw him blast the puck over Anderson's glove hand. This is the second game in a row that Roy has registered a point in a game and his first goal of the season since the home opener against the Carolina Hurricanes

Jordon Leopold scored the Sabres second goal of the night after Nathan Gerbe took some abuse behind the net and getting the puck to the front of the net. At that point, Leopold jumped on the loose puck and was able to bang it into the open net.

The Senators goals were scored by Milan Michalek and Erik Condra. The Sabres will head back home to face off against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night on Sabres Hall of Fame night. The Sabres are going to be inducting Dale Hawerchuk and Rick Jeanneret on that night.

Gerbe

That play that led to Leopold’s goal was a thing of beauty – a perfect example of his small size allowing him to quickly get back into the play after being knocked on his ass.

Indeed. Best goal of the year, IMO.

Vanek's

at the end of the period from the post icing faceoff is my fave of the year. Gerbe knocking the guy off the puck and then stealing it was sweet though.

Go Sabres!

totally agree

To make that play after your head is bounced off the boards and to have the drive to steal back the puck and drive to the front of the net. I loved that play.
