Bobby Ryan being shopped by the Ducks

Rumors flying that Ducks Forward Bobby Ryan is on the trading block. Sabres rumored to be offering Drew Stafford

Star-divide

I'd be very willing to give up Drew Stafford and some draft picks for Bobby Ryan. Instant improvement on the offense. Sure, it's another new piece to integrate, but that's talent you can't pass up- another top six forward (and a better second scoring line behind Vanek/Pominville), even if he's not a center. Thoughts?

Source? I would be surprised if the Sabres were actually shopping Stafford.

Not that I'm dying to get ride of Stafford

but I’d do Stafford and a 2nd rounder or two in a heartbeat. The extra $1.1M would kill our cap-space, but the talent upgrade would be real.

all over twitter, Nick Kypreos reporting, as well as ESPN rumors, etc. Of course, Anaheim’s never going to come out and say it, but many have jumped on the rumor.

make it a package

Stafford and Miller for Ryan and Hiller….

by sfg79 on Nov 29, 2011 3:57 PM EST reply actions

Sounds like a California team ripe for Ryan Miller. Amiright guize?

Grist for the Miller rumor mill

The Miller rumor makes no sense UNLESS we get goaltending back basically. And the only way the Sabres have cap room for a Bobby Ryan is by shedding some serious salary. Either that or a three way trade.
I still don’t see Miller being moved, but as 3rdManIn said, this source has been reliable in the past, so maybe Miller really wouldn’t mind getting out.

sounds like the stuff that you’d see on Hockey Buzz.. All it needs is one of those (e4) things after the rumor

"If we needed any more motivation to win a Cup sooner than later, we've got one now," Black said. "I really want to listen to the game that RJ calls when he finally gets to shout out, 'Buffalo wins the Stanley Cup.'"

I buy that Ryan is being shopped. I don’t buy that the Sabres are involved. The only thing that might indicate otherwise is the whole Ryan Miller isn’t happy report out of Edmonton.

by Philaster on Nov 29, 2011 5:58 PM EST up reply actions

In all seriousness, Randy Carlyle will be fired way before they trade someone like Bobby Ryan.

And as much as I’d love to see Bobby Ryan in a Sabres Uniform

Sabres rumored to be offering Drew Stafford.

Just screams Hockeybuzz and it’s something that I just don’t ever see happening. The only Ryan that will be suiting up for the Sabres would be Michael Ryan, and even that’s a long shot. lol

Just telling you, I think you’d be mistaken to dismiss this so casually. These are actual journalists stating what their sources tell them. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Anaheim needs to do SOMETHING. The Ryan – Perry – Getzlaf line is one of the best in hockey…when they feel like playing. They’ve been known to take entire games off. For instance, they did nothing against the Sabres in the first game of the year. I could easily see Ryan getting shipped out to change the chemistry.
Stafford being involved would be pure speculation.

by Philaster on Nov 29, 2011 6:41 PM EST up reply actions

I could see it happening if the deal is right, but the deal would have to be awful, awful sweet. How bad does a team really want that number one center.

Carlyle was fired.. and Ryan hasn’t been traded. hmmmmm lol

I’m not sure how much substance there is behind the rumors. The amount that it would take to get him would be too much for my taste anyways.

by tpsabres on Nov 29, 2011 6:19 PM EST reply actions

Reports are a 2nd line center, top 4 defenseman, and a 1st round pick or prospect. So, its doable they just have to want to pay that much.

So that amounts to Derek Roy, Leopold, and Joel Armia? I take that trade even though it weakens our center position even more, but would the Ducks? I’ve seen a proven young forward and two first rounders as possible compensation also. I think that’s more plausible, but I don’t think the Sabres could fit a trade like an Ennis and two 1s under the salary cap without a lot of maneuvering.

by tpsabres on Nov 29, 2011 7:11 PM EST up reply actions

Derek Roy is a top-line center.

I did my best considering the Sabres’ centers. Who else is close to a second line center, Hecht? Gaustad? Despite the line he’s playing on right now, Hecht is not a second line center, at least in terms of points. Gaustad should never play above the third line. I think Adam could reach that point, and is close to already, but he is still far from proven. Roy would be a second line center on a number of teams in the league

by tpsabres on Nov 29, 2011 8:42 PM EST up reply actions

That's why I said "top-line"

Based on skill alone he’s a worthy 1st line center though. And he only has a $4M cap-hit.

If you don't believe this

Just do a Google News search for “Bobby Ryan.” It’s everywhere that he’s being shopped.

by Philaster on Nov 29, 2011 6:49 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry

I meant substance behind rumors involving the Sabres. In the rumors the Sabres are never the first team listed, and instead are mentioned as a speculative team that could possibly be involved, probably because of Pegula’s spending.

Well the Sabres players didn’t help the team’s trade efforts by playing well.

by tpsabres on Nov 30, 2011 9:57 AM EST up reply actions

I heard

I heard Anaheim wanted a young forward, a prospect and a high draft pick for Ryan. For
young forwards you would have to put Stafford, Ennis or Adam on that list eventhough Ennis is hurt now. I would think that a Leino would be untouchable. In addition, if Anaheim was looking for a defenseman, either Leopold or Sekera would be trade material.

I think if you are looking at prospects, the names of Kassian, Foligno, Tropp, McNabb and Biega would be players that Anaheim may want. I think you would also be looking to give up a 1st or a 2nd round pick to get him. I feel though, that you will probably overpay to get him.

How would a trade of Stafford, Sekera and 1st round pick for Ryan sound? Would you have to throw in either a Kassian or a Foligno and take out either Stafford or Sekera to make the trade.

If Kassian has to be part of the trade then that`s a deal breaker.

by BUBLSRM on Nov 30, 2011 9:36 AM EST reply actions

I agree on Kassian. I would trade one of the 8,000 defensive prospects that the Sabres seem to have. Not all of them will end up as Sabres just doing the Math but several are NHL caliber. Something’s got to give.
Is Bobby Ryan worth it to this team? I’m not so sure.

by Philaster on Nov 30, 2011 10:33 AM EST up reply actions

8,000 prospects we have...

LOL!!!!
Wouldn’t it be easier to get the NHL to ,say, double the number of skaters we can dress per game?

Via reports

1) Rumors involving trading Miller or Miller wanting a trade are false (via Miller himself to Pierre LeBrun) [Note: this fact did not stop scum-of-the-earth Bucky Gleason from publishing more Miller-for-Ryan trade rumors]
2) Ryan is not being shopped, but Ducks are entertaining offers for any player, and Ryan gathers the most interest (LeBrun)
3) Toronto is probably going to get Ryan for Schenn, Grabovski, Kadri, and/or picks (unnamed source via Queen City Sports via Puck Daddy)
4) Sabres reported to offer Stafford, young NHL player (Ennis?), and defensive prospect (McNabb?) (unnamed source via Queen City Sports via Puck Daddy)

I would laugh if Toronto does that. It would make their team worse.

by Philaster on Nov 30, 2011 4:54 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, but Brian Burke drafted Ryan so I wouldn’t be surprised if he guns for him

by lassathrax on Nov 30, 2011 6:47 PM EST up reply actions

On board with Ryan

This team is lacking scoring punch and definitely needs some changes. Leino has not done anything so far and Stafford seems too inconsistent. They are boring to watch and are not a playoff team currently!

currently 7th in the East; 4 points out of the North East Division Lead.. sounds like a playoff team to me.
