Myers suffered the injury in the second period of Saturday's game against Phoenix and did not return. Said coach Lindy Ruff (courtesy of Sabres.com) "It happened just on an awkward play, nothing that you’d ever notice, just one of those freak-like incidents." And just when he was starting to look like the improving, third-year defensemen we all wanted, too.
With Myers being out for a month at least, the already-thin Buffalo blueline is now stretched even thinner. Remember, Mike Weber is on the shelf for a a while longer as he recovers from an upper body injury, so the team will look to Rochester call-up TJ Brennan to step in and play Wednesday against Boston. Brennan will pair with Marc-Andre Gragnani, and bets are now being taken on whether or not that pair will get more than 12:00 of ice time. (My vote is no.)
Myers joins a long list of injured Sabres, including gaoltender Ryan Miller, who's still recovering from his concussion suffered against Boston. While Ruff said that Miller was doing "OK", he gave no timetable on Miller's return.
Cody McCormick is still not participating in practice, making his return time questionable at best, but at least Jochen Hecht and Tyler Ennis look ready to return. Both players skated today and participated in drills, though they wer still wearing the red, non-contact jerseys.
So, Sabres fans, will the injury bug ever leave us alone, or should we start a pool going to see who gets injured next?
