Luke Adam becomes the hero of the game by scoring the first two goals of the game and missing on a couple of chances to score his first hat trick of his career. The Thomas Vanek/Luke Adam/Jason Pominville line was still red hot again after scoring eight points against the Anaheim Ducks. Adam's two goals, Vanek's two assists, and Pominville's assist gave the line five points on the game and a total of 13 points in two games. Luke Adam had some thoughts about playing with Vanek and Pominville from John Vogl of the Buffalo News:
"It's a great feeling to be able to start the season like that," Adam said. "Playing with Jason and Thomas, both of those guys make the game a lot easier on me."
Paul Gaustad scored what will be considered the game winner via a nifty tip between his legs off of a Nathan Gerbe feed. Drew Stafford scored his first goal of the season on the power play to round out the Sabres scoring. The Kings goals came from Anze Kopitar, one of the power play and the other came at even strength.
The Sabres defense has played well in both games and with the offense getting out to early leads in the game, it makes the defense's life easier. During the Ducks game on Friday, the Sabres as a team focused on preserving the three goal lead and didn't register a shot on goal while giving the Ducks 11. Against the Kings, the Sabres had four shots and registered a goal, but the Kings were able to register 11 in the period and closed the gap to two goals as well.
