Buffalo Sabres Weekly Prospects Roundup

This year we want to focus more on the Sabres prospects than we have in the past. Because I have taken a step back with my involvement with the site and I have a bit of a connection to junior hockey, I have taken on the role of the prospects features for the site. I would love to hear your thoughts on what you want to know about Sabres prospects. What I am doing here will in no way replace the fantastic coverage from SabresProspects.com but this will be a teaser of sorts for folks that are mildly interested in what the prospects are doing.

After the jump is a chart with the statistics for all the prospects in the Sabres system. Luke Adam is still considered a Sabres prospect but if he continues to produce with the Sabres, he will be removed from the list and added to the long list of Sabres who have graduated to the NHL level.

Age

What’s the upper age limit for a prospect? It looks like 23.

Who would you like to see added to the list? I was thinking 25 would be the cut-off but couldn’t think of anyone else to add to the list. If I’m missing someone, please let me know so I can fix it.

Gauthier-Leduc has 17 points in 7 games? I know it is the QMJHL but he is a defenseman… my god!

Ouch…

The nice part was seeing Foligno’s first professional goal, although he did not uphold the family tradition with the jump. I doubt I would’ve either after wearing the same sweater as the rest of the players involved in that stinker.

I wont go into an over the top breakdown, but it wasnt good. Macintyre was left out to dry for most of them, and I was there for my first live 5v3 shorthanded goal against… It really was that kind of night.

2 of the best scoring chances were from Morrisonn, who I found myself feeling really bad for at times. One was a very nice 1 timer in the first, and I believe the 2nd was on a delayed penalty when he carried in to the crease in the 2nd.

Team did not apear to have organization in any zone and the play to move it from one zone to the next was even worse, pretty frustrating overall. Hopefully, this game and the first on the road were more a product of the team having only 1 true pre-season game which was against a college club.

Wow Finley is a big guy, appeared to me that he moved well for someone that large. If they can get his game to come up to the next level and avoid freak injuries he might become the scariest played in the league.

Finley has already had the freak injury of his career when he ruptured an artery in his hand back in 2009. He was a first round pick of the Capitals back in 2005. He has potential he’s just never fulfilled any of it.

"If we needed any more motivation to win a Cup sooner than later, we've got one now," Black said. "I really want to listen to the game that RJ calls when he finally gets to shout out, 'Buffalo wins the Stanley Cup.'"

That’s what I mean, if he can stay healthy and work back up, he might be a wow factor. He’s almost surprising in his size with how Myers or Pronger he doesn’t look liek the tall slim guy, maybe the 6’8 he’s listed at is a stretch so he fills it out better, but he is someone you notice on the ice. There’s no need to reference the player from the Bruins who is also tall, but… cross some fingers and Buffalo might home the rights to the next big

I’m not saying he played a great game, but if the great game comes to him it will be a game changer.

It’s a long shot. I don’t see Finley ever making it to the show in Buffalo. But Can you imagine a Blueline with Myers and Finley though. HUGE.

That made me shiver…wow.

I like the idea of analyzing prospects on a weekly basis.

Would you feel comfortable discussing who you think would able to project to the AHL and NHL levels? I know it is all speculation, but that would be an interesting read to me.

Link is to scoresheet if anyone cares tonight.

Little guys played better tonight, at least on paper. Can’t confirm because I was watching the big guys.
