Introducing Myself & Let's Go Buff-a-lo!!
I've lurked on this blog for quite some time as i've found it to be the most comprehensive of any Sabres blog out there. Upon the start of the new season i decided to make myself an account to join in on the fun. I don't count on all too many people reading this, considering the vast amount of more fascinating topics, but i wanted to briefly introduce myself all the same.
I'm from Buffalo, NY, though i now spend a great majority of time in Potsdam, NY, where i'm attending college. I've been a hockey & Sabres fan for as long as i can remember. I only have flashes of memory from the 90's however, and typically negative ones (i.e. no icing against the Caps & no goal in 1999). My fanhood so to speak really took off after the lock out, when the team made their two consecutive runs to the conferences finals. My favorite player over that span was Chris Drury. I loved him in Colorado and was exciting from the moment we signed him. It was a shame to see him quietly retire over the summer.
These days, after spending a few years in my dog house, i'm on the Thomas Vanek bandwagon. I had the pleasure of being at our first home win last season when he completely undressed the Washington Capitals in OT. Perhaps that was the turning point. I still wish for more consistency, but he's off to a heck of a start. While potentially unrealistic i'd like to see him push for a 50 goal season.
As for the team on the whole, i expect great things this season. I was, and am, exciting by the additions made to our team in the off season. Many believe we've overpaid for the likes of Ehrhoff and Leino. Maybe that's true, but if it brings us a Cup will anyone be complaining then? I know we're only 2 games in, but the team is off to a hot start. On paper, we're better than last season. If they can play with the energy the demonstrated down the stretch last year, coupled with the increase in talent, there's no telling how far this team can go.
I'd also like to mention, i'm a fan of hockey on the whole. If there's hockey on TV, it's likely i'm watching. My knowledge from team to team varies, but i try to keep up with all happenings in the NHL. Beyond the Sabres, i'm most excited about the return of the Winnipeg Jets to the NHL. I wish them well, though not at the expense of the Blue & Gold.

I’ve been there/here awhile. I’m a Graduate Student in Crane for Music Education and if all goes according to plan this will be my last semester. I’ll be living here through the spring though at least through the Conference Finals.
You should check out the old hockey barn at Clarson, they put turf in for box lax/kickyball (soccer) to get some time in before the fields up there are playable, but it’s an amazing old facility. That awesome all wood building, seat numbers that were branded in by hand, even without the ice it still has the feeling that makes you think about a little bit older time and the atmosphere that games were played in.
