2010-2011 Player Outlook: Jochen Hecht

Jochen Hecht had one his better seasons as a Buffalo Sabre in 2009 and is looking to repeat that production again in 2010. A pinky injury at the end of the season caused him to miss the playoffs and his loss in the lineup is one of the under looked reasons on why the Sabres bowed out so early. With a seeming logjam of forwards who tend to play with the same level of talent this season though, its hard to see where Hecht will fit on the roster.

Early projections see Hecht falling on the wing with Mike Grier and Rob Niedermayer, but he spent much of last season with Tim Connolly and Jason Pominville and that line seemed to have success. With the way Lindy switches lines on a consistent basis, where to slot Hecht may not be as much of an issue as whether he can repeat his 21 goal performance from last season. Hecht's 21 goals last season was the second most that he has scored in his career behind the 22 in 2007 and only the second time ever that he has broken the 20 goal mark in a season. Hecht is consistent in scoring between 10 and 20 as he has done that in each of his 10 full seasons.

Jochen Hecht will have another quiet year that he usually does. I believe that he will score another twenty goals, a little less if he lines up more with Grier and Niedermayer, and he will provide that same type of consistent game that Sabres fans have seen out of Hecht in the past 7 seasons.

Consitant. Plays well in both ends. Scores from crazy angles. He’ll be playing on all lines Im guessing.

Yep. He’s someone Lindy can play on a third line, but will be quick to jump to 1st/2nd C or LW when the need arises, either due to injury or ‘spark’.

If he has another year like last year, I will be very pleased. He is one of those players I feel confident will do his best to earn his salary an be a team player.

Jochen “I score from the dumbest angles” Hecht

I just hope this bizarre finger injury doesn’t keep him from helping out PK be in the top 5 in the league again.

It’s okay. I saw interviews with Ruff and Hecht that both seemed to indicate that the pinky shouldn’t affect his game significantly.

Hecht is a really great player to have on this team. Aside from being a really good and consistent two-way player, he’s great for filling holes … useful.

Why would it? It’s been 4 months now.

I realize that you need your pinky to play effective hockey, but 4 months is an awfully long time. If it hasn’t healed, there’s bigger problems.
