I understand that everyone is frustrated with the first round exit from the playoffs, but let's be real. This talk about trading away Roy and Connolly is pretty ridiculous, they were our two leading scorers. Don't get me wrong I was real disappointed with Connolly's performance in the playoffs, but no GM is going to give Buffalo what he's worth because of his injury trouble. We should be talking about getting rid of a chronic under-performer Drew Stafford and I know we would not get a whole lot for him, but I think it's time for him to move on and give one of the young guys in Portland a shot at his spot.
I hear you guys it would be nice to add Paul Martin or Kaberle, but what makes you think Darcy will suddenly change his tune and try to bring in one of those big name D-men? For the last 13 years Buffalo has been a build through the draft and from within the organization kinda of team, but signing players like a Rivet and Grier for toughness and leadership. Martin is going to want $5 million+ and there is no way Buffalo will pay that. Tallinder and Lydman are two of the top UFA D-men this offseason and I can't see either of them asking for much more than they made last season, which was about $3 million each. Buffalo will re-sign either Tallinder or Lydman, likely Tallinder to continue pairing with Myers, but the other's spot will go to Sekera, Gragnani or Weber. Both Gragnani and Weber are RFA's and quality D-men and it would be a shame to let both of them get away for nothing.
I know that Darcy is not afraid to make a trade, but remember the Briere trade. Briere was not a star right away, he was young with loads of potential and eventually become a star. It is nice to dream, but we gotta remember who is running the team and their track record.
Let's Go Buffalo!
