Around SBN: Lakers Should Trade Andrew Bynum So He Doesn't Go To Waste

NHL Draft Open Thread: Day 2

The Buffalo Sabres selected smooth skating right-handed defenseman Mark Pysyk in the first round on Friday night. Today they will select seven more players unless a trade or two happens. This is an open thread where you can talk about the Pysyk selection and all the picks today. The Sabres have had some luck in the later rounds and I expect they will have a couple today.

Coverage will be live on the NHL Network and if you don't have the NHL network, we will keep you up to date on all the Sabres selections today.

You can follow the Sabres draft picks here.

Wow. I was hoping to get Dalton Smith in the third round. There goes that idea.

stats/info

Gauthier-Leduc
2007-08: Chosen by Drummondville in the first round (18th overall) of the 2008 QMJHL Draft by the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

2008-09: Traded to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies prior to the start of the season. In his QMJHL rookie season, Gauthier-Leduc played in 52 games for the Huskies, scoring 1 goal and adding 16 assists for 17 points. In 6 playoff games, Gauthier-Leduc picked up 2 assists.

2009-10: Gauthier-Leduc played in 68 games for the Huskies. He scored 20 goals and added 26 assists for 46 points, turning in a +26 rating for the season. In 11 playoff games, he scored 2 goals and chipped in 4 assists for 6 points. Played for Team Orr at the 2010 CHL Top Prospects Game.

Strong on his skates and with excellent offensive vision, most believe that Gauthier-Leduc is just beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. With a strong shot from the point and great puck-moving ability, the Quebec native has solid size, but needs to be more assertive and continue to round out his game.

Kevin Sundher
2006-07: Sundher was chosen in the first round (7th overall) of the 2007 WHl Bantam Draft by the Chilliwack Bruins.

2007-08: Sundher saw limited action with the Bruins, playing in 6 games for that club. He had no goals and 1 assist for 1 point while finishing +2 in those games.

2008-09: In his WHL rookie season, Sundher played in 67 games for the Bruins. He scored 19 goals and added 20 assists for 39 points while picking up 68 penalty minutes.

2009-10: In 72 games for the Bruins, Sundher scored 25 goals and added 36 assists for 61 points. He added 101 penalty minutes on the season. In 6 playoff games for the Bruins, Sundher scored 3 goals and added 2 assists for 5 points.

Doesn’t look like the draft will provide any immediate help for the Sabres in the 2010-2011 season.

So it will be just like almost every other single year for the Sabres

and every other team in the NHL who isn’t drafting in the top 5.

6 players from last year’s draft have played an NHL game. The first 5 picks and a guy who played 1 game in a late season call-up. I’m guessing you expected to find Sidney Crosby at pick 23?
