Tyler Myers Wins Calder Trophy
Tyler Myers completed a very successful rookie season by being awarded the Calder Trophy for NHL rookie of the year. Myers seemed to be a lock after leading the Sabres in ice time this season and leading all rookies in assists. Myers proved that he could play in all situations and appears to be headed to a brilliant career, hopefully a long career in a Sabres uniform.
Myers was presented his award by actor Mark Wahlberg, yep that's right...Marky Mark presented the award. It was nice to hear the cheers from the crowd when Myers thanked the Sabres and the fans. They say Sabres fans travel well and that is evident when there are cheers at the award ceremony.

pfffft. Next year the Hart!
Seriously, though. I got chills watching Myers win and some reporter talking to him saying the defensemen to win it (Orr was mentioned) and how rare it is. Miller & Myers, trophy winners! Sounds good.
Ryan Miller was the true MVP.
I don’t think there is any question that Meyers should have won the Calder Trophy. He was truely the most outstanding rookie of the 2009-2010 season. I think this is only the beginning of a career that will, in the end, be a Hockey Hall of Fame career.
I think its funny that you’ve talked bad about him throughout the season and that you can’t even spell his name correctly..

I’d blame him but about 33% of the people that try to spell his name spell it Meyers, or, the finger memory mistake, Mylers.

Try living in Fort Myers, Florida. I hate it when people put that extra “e” in there.

We actually have a lot of people from Chicago down here. I watched each game, but I was shocked at the shear number of Blackhawk fans and people from Chicago that live here.

Not bad for a traitorous Canadian ingrate, huh.
With any luck and a lot of hard work he may, indeed, have that kind of career. We have 2 of the 3 main pieces for a perennial Cup contender… the goalie and the stud-defenseman. We need that #1 Center who can take the game on his back and make something of it.
Congratz to all, now let’s see if they can follow this up with a solid season next year.
Ta,
We need that #1 center so bad. It would put us over the top.

We are unlikely to get it this year. The way things are going Connolly is going to be the best center ‘available’ now that Plekanec and Marleau have re-signed with their clubs. Who else is out there that’s capable of 70 points and playing 20 minutes in a number of roles?
So, I would, at this point, get ready for Roy and Connolly again as our top centers. Regier will, hopefully, add a depth guy down the middle like Koivu, Cullen or Malhotra… all bring different things, but all bring things this team needs.
Ta,
