I don't call anyone out usually, but I hope this is the right call. I link you to this fan post by Dred Scott to see what I mean.

If McCormick is inserted into the lineup who sits?

I’m gonna guess that Ellis is hurt.

McCormick had a pretty good year in Portland. 17-12-29 -2 is a decent line for guy most people assume is a goon.

Exactly

Ellis is out of the lineup with an injury from the hit last night.

What concerns me is the 0-1-1 -2 line from his four career playoff games. He has played in the AHL all season and can’t possibly be more than a hitting factor right?

My point is McCormick isn’t an Andrew Peters type enforcer who can barely skate and only gets 4 min of ice time.

by Tsujimoto on Apr 20, 2010 8:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I know, but I’m concerned he is going to be a defensive liability.

Cody “Sgt Pepper” McCormick.

To say I’m just a little bit intrigued at this move would be an understatement.

So are these the new lines?

Kennedy-Roy-Stafford
Ennis-Connolly-Pominville
Torres-Gaustad-Grier
Kaleta-Mair-McCormick

I suppose those are some punishing 3rd and 4th lines. If the top 6 can wake up and score some goals we should be able to win. Miller will have to be himself and the defense will have to be better about pinching. I personally hope Sekera sits a game in favor of Butler, maybe he’s itching to make a difference on this team (power play in particular)

by lassathrax on Apr 20, 2010 9:03 PM EDT reply actions

What about Weber?

As I write this the Pirates season is officially ending. Weber is much better in the corners than Sekera or Butler and I think that’s what’s most important in this series.

by Tsujimoto on Apr 20, 2010 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Kassian was a -17 on a good junior team this year which leads me to believe that he’s terrible defensively. I think he’s still at least 2-3 years away from making Sabres

by Tsujimoto on Apr 20, 2010 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions

He accrued the majority of that before he was traded to that good team. Not trying to sound snippy, I just don’t remember the name of the team.

by Traver on Apr 20, 2010 11:33 PM EDT up reply actions

ahh, didn’t realize he’d been traded. Still, -17 seems bad in any context.

by Tsujimoto on Apr 20, 2010 11:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Weber would be interesting… but Butler already has chemistry with Rivet, giving him a slight edge in my book.

by lassathrax on Apr 21, 2010 12:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Looks like it—unless maybe Torres gets bumped up and someone else down? (Kennedy?).

“In talking to [Pirates coach] Kevin [Dineen] today, and what we’ve seen as well, is that he’s someone that deserves an opportunity,” General Manager Darcy Regier told the Biddeford (Maine) Journal-Tribune while attending the Pirates’ playoff game Tuesday night in Manchester, N.H. "We’re not sure [if McCormick will be needed]. Depending on what we do with the roster, and what the health of the roster is [today], we’ll see. … But certainly he deserves the opportunity

Should be interesting to see if he plays.

Boychuk

You’re back on the hitlist. I thought about forgiving you, but you really did knock ellis out of the series.

Spark

im hoping this call up will spark the sabres offense. im hoping that this guy can lay a good hit, create a turnover, create a play, create something so we can have a solid chance at getting a goal.
