The Portland Pirates followed the lead of the parent Sabres, dropping game two in their best-of-seven series with the Manchester Monarchs. Manchester now leads the series 2-0 with game three on Monday night.

I used to go to a lot of Pirates when I was a kid when they were the Caps affiliate.

I watched this game and the Pirates were awful in the first period, and couldn’t claw there way back into it.

Gerbe was flying and was clearly the fastest player on the ice but often he was trying to do too much and in the end he didn’t accomplish much.

Luke Adam played in first professional game and showed some good offensive instincts. He didn’t get a lot of ice time but I suspect it will increase as the series goes on.

Only real highlight for the Pirates was Cody McCormick absolutely destroying Bud Holloway in a fight. I hope someone posts that fight on youtube or hockeyfights
