All-Star game question...
Is there any method to how they pick where the NHL All-Star game will be played next? From what I've ever seen there has been only one played in Buffalo and that was back in the French Connection days... I was wondering if anyone knows when/how they pick where this game is played, or if there has been any mention to it being in Bufffalo anytime soon? It would be awesome if it was, I would love to attend a Skills Comp. I think that would be something fun to go to, probably a once in a lifetime type of thing to go to. And Buffalo would be an awesome host IMO.

If I’m not mistaken, the all-star game is bid upon by teams around the league. The league takes a look at the teams that want to host an all-star game and then choose from there. There are also deals where all-star games are brokered ahead of time.
Buffalo won’t host an all-star game due to the face that the convention space is not big enough. I know I’ve read that somewhere.

Hmm… Well thats kind of a shame. I was hoping that maybe they just cycled them and Buffalo would be coming up soon. I know it was kind of an out of left field question but my Sabres calander had a trivia question regarding Perreaults ’78 OT winner and it got me thinking…

You're thinking about the Super Bowl.
Not enough hotels and space for that. If Buffalo can’t host the NHL All-Star game then they’d never have gotten the World Juniors. Or host the NCAAs every couple of years.
Buffalo will get it soon. The game has only been played 26 times since the Sabres last held it. That’s less than the number of teams in the league with only the Kings & Habs holding it twice. And it’s easy to see why those two stand out. The Habs were for the 100 years and the Kings play in the LA glitz and glamor.
Phoenix will get one of the next two because they were supposed to have it in 2006. Pittsburgh might get 2011 to open their new arena and because the NHL can’t get enough of Sidney’s sweet balljuice. Carolina, Anaheim, and a couple others that haven’t had it will be coming up. Buffalo’s got a chance next year to celebrate 40 years but I doubt the NHL would be smart enough to do that.
At the same time there’s a chance that they won’t get the game during their 50th anniversary because the Canucks came in at the same time and the NHL may want to have the game in Vancouver. On second thought, they did just have some big tournament there recently so they essentially had this year’s all-star game.
Buffalo All Star Game
I was at that game, Perreault scored the OT winner on a bank shot off his leg or something like that. The Phil Esposito won the MVP (He scorred a goal or two earlier and I think he assisted on the winner) and the crowed started to boo. How do you not give the MVP to the home tone hero who scored the winner?!?
Thats awesome.
About being at the game, not the MVP part. Yeah that is bull. You would assume he would get the MVP after the OT winner.

Because they always vote for the MVP award before the game ends...
not that it matters since Billy Smith was the MVP for pitching a shutout while he was on the ice and Esposito didn’t record any points that day.
