I like these early spring 5pm Sunday starts.
Game’s over before it’s completely dark, still time before a MOonday work morning….
All that’s needed is two points.
I wish they'd file with the NHL
to get their name officially changed to that.

Wow. I knew the Canes were a hot team.
Just didn’t know HOW hot.
We need to play our style and bore everyone to a win.
They didn’t mention Lalime in the pre-game, so I’m figuring it’s Miller.
I'll be buying one tonite.
Best shirt yet 289.
That is awesome
good work

It's Miller.
I like the call.
Me too.
Need to put the foot down on the throat of the division and this is the best chance.

They're 7 points back right now.
And we have 2 games in hand. (counting this one) Plus they scare me not one bit at all.

If Sabres beat them Wednesday the threat will be over.

I was surprised a couple people here were expecting Lalime.
The only reason Miller broke down after 60 games the last couple of season was because – IMHO – he never played that kind of season before.
Yeah, I’d love to have a backup play 20 games too. But Miller has taken things to a completely different level this season. With games Wednesday & Friday… I say rest him next Saturday.
Compared to....???
It’s been 3:40 and they just had their first shot on Miller.
First shift looked stiff is all. they’ve caught up nicely though :)

We need to be boring for the first 10 minutes.
Hot team playing at home where they’ve also been hot. Stifle them to death.
Playing with playmakers certainly helps. I love Grier as much as the next sabres fan but a playmaker he is not.

28 and in his prime? Rumor is he turned 20 a couple of months ago.

Atlanta...
…for some reason their fans have a huge beef with us (nobody knows why) and they talk a massive amount of smack for being a team that has never won a playoff game…
Nice momentum off that PK. Gaustad’s really throwing his body around in front of the net. Drew a penalty.
That was a nice shift.

Anyone see that game winning goal by Whitney the other night?
Torres = 2 assists and an injury. Lame trade.
They're in Carolina's pocket.
Bettman figures if Carolina makes the playoffs, it’ll be good for his “expansion” plans. Kinda sad a team that recently won the Cup can’t fill it’s seats…
Actually, I hope they fold and move to some northern US / Canadian city.
NYI are currently the team most likely to relocate.

I’ve always wondered if the best thing would be eliminating 2-4 teams.
I’m sure that the NHLPA would have no problem letting that happen.

This weekend has been different. Maybe it’s because I’m shut in with this monster cold. Or maybe it’s because it seems like it’s wide open.

I prefer Head2head but the way the league has played out only 2 or 3 other teams have been playing since Dec. The biggest problem with how it was setup was you could only change your lineup once a week.

I was surprised when I heard Stafford was playing for him yesterday.
He was listed as a healthy scrath.
I'm reading over the entire Canes gameday thread...
And from all the nasty, vulgar, foul comments about Buffalo that I’m reading ALL OVER that thread… I stand by every comment I made about the people of North Carolina. Whether you-know-who likes it or not.
Maybe he likes the comments those people write?
Greetings Buffalo, specifically Jflaskey2
Congratulations on your win over the ’Canes. We may have had some goalie troubles, but that certainly does not discredit the incredible effort your team put up to get those 5 goals and hold us to 3. Bravo, it was a great game to watch despite it being a loss to us.
However, I do take a bit of offense to what Jflaskey2 has said both here and within Carolina’s game day thread. It appears he has been rubbed the wrong way by a few comments about “shutting up Buffalo fans,” which I suppose I could understand, but I don’t understand why you appear this upset by it. Perhaps I’ve completely overlooked the foul comments that allegedly are “ALL OVER” our thread, if I am, please feel free to pick some specific ones out.
I don’t like having to deal with anyone’s fans when we lose to them. There just happen to be a healthy number of Sabres fans down here, of course we’re going to mention how much we’d like to avoid the inevitable ribbing we’ll receive from them the next day at work. It’s only natural.
Next time you’re upset by the way a team’s fans are acting, please try to stay above that and conduct yourself as you’d like us to conduct ourselves. Set an example, or don’t complain.
Thank you, and again, congratulations to Buffalo.
Or, you know, don’t make generalizations on a fanbase because of a couple….dozen Buffalo transplants.
Come up to a game in HSBC. Get here early, go out to dinner and actually hang around real Buffaloians. You’ll get a few catcalls here and there, but 99% of them are good natured. Oh, and before you call BS on me, my wife is a Canes fan. No, I am not kidding. So every Canes/Sabres game, I’m at ground zero with hearing stuff that is said to her. Most Sabres fans don’t even yell things to her anymore.
"Grind now, shine later." - Wesley Johnson
I wasn’t the one who had said I’d like to shut anyone up, firstly. I try not to judge fans too much to be honest, especially those that aren’t in their native habitat any more. ;)
I wouldn’t be surprised to find that we just have some bad apples down here, but I haven’t been to HSBC. I’m sure the majority of fans are for the most part quite civil, but I’d expect others to think the same of us. I’ve only run into a few disrespectful ‘Canes fans in my time, and I don’t appreciate what they contribute to the atmosphere either.
I’m of the firm belief that fans should be cheering on their team and not disrespecting the other. I’m also of the firm belief that fans shouldn’t be provoking each other and trashing each other unnecessarily. If you’re a Buffalo fan looking in the ‘Canes game day thread against you, you aren’t going to find nice things, the same could be said of me coming here. Both sides trash-talk to some degree, I generally think it’s all a bit of fun in a place you are presumably among only fans of your team.
I don’t really have a problem with the “CANES SUCK LOLOLOL” comments on here, but I do have a problem with people complaining about similar ones in our thread when there are plenty present here as well. I’m not really supposed to be reading those, just as you’re not supposed to generally be reading ours, no one’s feelings would be hurt if we just kept to our own camps like we’re supposed to.
If you’d like me not to generalize about Buffalo fans, then I’d like you (not you specifically) to not generalize about Carolina fans. It’s really rather simple.
"Canes suck, lololol" is about the extent of it.
But on the Canes blog, all I’ve ever seen is “God I hate Buffalo”, “I’d love to shut some Buffalo fans up”, “Bufuckalo”, etc is all over the Canes thread almost every time we meet up. And those comments aren’t even the worst I’ve seen.
“Paladin6” is by far the worst on your site. As an experiment, try identifying yourself as a Sabres fan and ask why he used a certain insult. He’ll immediately “go in swinging”, as he calls it" and lobs some pretty disguting filth. Of course, your admin would never ban him…
I don’t really see how the first two are so much worse than anything on any other team’s site. When like-minded people are gathered together in opposition to another group (ie. a sports team), there are going to be a few casual insults thrown in there. It happens everywhere, I’m sorry you had to see it yourself.
I agree with you on Paladin6, but I don’t think he’s a very good measure of what most ‘Canes fans are like and as such I would appreciate it if you do not paint us all in that light. CC is a rather close-knit blog (I’m not sure how much so in comparison to others such as this one) and as such I think it is hard for our admins to ban people they go to games with/tailgate with/go to charity events with/etc. I don’t know if he has or will be issued a warning, but I would be surprised if he is not reprimanded in some way.
But anyway, can’t we all just get along and agree that Philly is the worst? :)
100% agree.
I lived in Philly. Fun place to live, minus the Flyers fans.
Regarding Paladin6, it was tough to even comment over there without him getting in my face with insults right off the bat, when I hadn’t even used one vulgarity or insult. Because of him and 1 or 2 other guys spewing hate, the situation got out of control. I didn’t. If you saw my comments (before half the thread was removed) they consisted of “was that neccessary?” every time I and Buffalo was insulted. Like I said, I didn’t use one insult or vulgarity (even I’m shocked by that) and was surprised at the hostility.
Having said that, yes there are rotten apples in every group, but I have noticed a difference between Sabres and Canes fans on game day. 1 or 2 Sabres fans might say “Canes suck” on the Sabres blog, but if you look at the Canes blog, it’s peppered with some pretty serious anti-Buffalo sentiment and really disgusting comments. So while you are cool, I’m pointing out that there is a LARGE amount of “hate” (as another Sabres fan noticed) within the Canes fan base. A large amount. There’s no sugar coating it.
Ok, let's do this.
First off, I want to bring up that another Sabres fan on here also noticed the “hate” coming from Canes fans on their blog:
“I read through the "canes country" game thread, I really want to know why there is so much hate.” – FloridaBuffalo
Second, you brought up my comments on the Canes blog. My first comment was “Grow up” in response to "I’m excited to hopefully shut up some stupid Buffalo fans tonight!!!"
Regarding the Canes fans ignorant, hate-filled comments: I won’t even bother copying them over here. Just go take a look at their blog, you’ll find the disgusting comments up and down their game thread. Go look.
Before the admin over at the Canes blog removed all of the comments at the end of the thread (because he didn’t want the world to see how gross their responses were), several Canes fans responded with comments ranging from vulgarities from front-to-back, to irrelevant comments making fun of mentally challenged kids. What an intelligent group of people, seriously.
Three people responding to you does not accurately represent the Carolina Hurricanes fanbase anymore than a few Buffalo fans being thrown out of the RBC Center represent the entire fanbase of the Buffalo Sabres.
I would really personally appreciate if you would refrain from exaggerating the insults you encouraged and provoked. I do not personally approve of their response to you, but you are not really handling this very gracefully either.
Again, for the last time, look at any of the examples above my first post (aka, before I was even there).
Second, I’d like to point out that I didn’t use one vulgarity or insult on the Canes blog. Not one.
If I might attempt to add some objectivity?
First – wow. Guys, chill. It’s a game. Nobody’s child is now spending the night in the hospital or emotionally crippled. Okay?
Next. Jflaskey2?
I’m not going to head over to another team’s game thread just to read the off-color remarks that were posted. Sorry, but that’s just begging for a fight. That’s THEIR game thread. This is ours. And if I might suggest something? You just cluttered it up with garbage.
Finally, VGG. A couple of things.
To start – thanks for being polite about us winning. I said it earlier, but it bears repating – the game wasn’t anywhere near as close as the score was. Not sure you feel the same… no… I know you don’t (I do understand the term “backhanded compliment”). Still, thanks for giving us kudos on the win.
To finish? Let me quote you:
“I don’t really have a problem with the "CANES SUCK LOLOLOL" comments on here, but I do have a problem with people complaining about similar ones in our thread when there are plenty present here as well.”
Well. I did a search on “suck” in this game thread….
Over The Moon: “Nothing beats Southern Florida in terms of suckage level”
289: “HAHAHA SUCK IT” (In response to a Sabres goal.)
FloridaBuffalo: “The hurricanes broadcast sucks.”
FloridaBuffalo: “But I will say Nascar sucks”
Then there were two times (including one directed at the Canes fans) by the poster giving you fits.
And, um, that’s it.
To be honest? Both of you are guilty of the SAME thing – you fell for people who baited you! Something tells me that that Canes thread got ugly. And well after that game ended, this one followed suit. Becuase you know what? Until you two took this silly argument here – I think this was a pretty normal and non-instigative game thread.
Again, please. Chill. You’ll live longer.
(Okay. Off my soapbox. See you all Friday!)
We were resolving this a couple post above, dfderie.
But because of the layout of SBN, sometimes current posts are hidden above because of the “reply” option. Sometimes things get overlooked that way. Oh well. I’d like to ask you to read my response a few lines up though, it’s pretty clear cut regarding the large amount of nasty comments (as well as the hate level of them) that you find on the Canes blog compared to the amount on here. The two cannot be compared.
